Yousei Teikoku released their new single ‘flamma idola’ to celebrate their first 20 years of their musical career. They went on their 9th Formal Ceremony Tour ‘flamma idola tour’ with the last day taking place on 17 June at Akasaka BLITZ. Here is a music report on the atmosphere at the concert!
A ceremony to confirm the subjects’ loyalty to Yousei Teikoku.
Absoluteness, fate, and apocalypse… In the raven-black darkness, the solemn sound of Yousei Teikoku loomed over us, and their outlines began to take shape.
It was a ceremony (i.e. a live concert) to confirm the subjects’ loyalty to Yousei Teikoku.
The band members appeared in the venue with the background tinted with a dark noise. ‘I shall commence the 9th Formal Ceremony Tour “flamma idola tour”,’ declared Empress Yui, and at that very moment, a savage sound overflowed into the venue.
The first song, ‘Alte Burg’, came out of nowhere. The band members went berserk and made sounds with tremendous energy and heat, which created a riotous air in the venue. Countless fists were thrust in the air, and I could hear a lot of cheering. While blasting out her ferocious singing voice, Empress Yui was taking in the burning air in the venue, as if the frenzy of the fans was something to be devoured.
What an insane feast it was. To add to the already fierce atmosphere, ‘Kikai Shoujo Mousou’ started to blare. The sound hit the audience and Empress Yui spurred her subjects’ by moving right to left on the stage. Our only hope was to dedicate ourselves to her. Empress Yui let out her beautiful shout.
The sound didn’t stop, rather it went beyond the extreme, at ‘Naikan Uchuu Shisha no Yurikago’. It was a signal to go crazy. Empress Yui violently moved her body as if ordering us, ‘Do not think, follow your heart, and release your mind.’ It was almost as if her subjects were forgetting the concept of logic. What a beautiful and divine goddess.
The singing voice of Empress Yui spurred us into fits of screaming
‘Roar’ ordered the Empress, and continued, ‘I haven’t seen you for so long. I see familiar faces and new ones too. How do you like our ceremony? It’ll be a blast here today. I wonder if you can resist the heat. Follow us until you completely burn out. Here we go!!’
The music was beautiful, ruthless, melodious, and, above all, had a power to ignite our inner fire. Although it was easy on the ears, the guitar sound also seemed quite piercing. The hard and melodious world of music created by ‘Akaki Koutei, Shiroki Sekai’ aroused our excitement. Despite the raging sound, Empress Yui sang fearlessly. I couldn’t stop admiring her coolness.
The music shifted to louder and more hardcore songs. Heavy grind song ‘Sacrifice’ upped the excitement. The singing voice of Empress Yui spurred us into fits of screaming. We raised our fists and got caught up in the frenzy.
Yousei Teikoku didn’t stop playing their song even for a second. They kept on attacking us with more songs, as if she wanted to keep the excitement at its peak. My memory became blurred by the symphonic, loud, and hardcore ‘Kyusei Άργυρόϛ’. We swayed our body. We raised our fists. Yousei Teikoku made us, their subjects, merge in the heat of the venue.
We indulged ourselves in the savage sound and Empress Yui’s singing.
‘Amazing!! Although it has just started, we are getting hot. Are you having fun?! Are you keeping up with us? We’ll definitely play three songs from our new single ‘flamma idola’. Other than that, what songs shall we play? It’s so exciting. Do our subjects today like songs from our middle period? I shall sing songs from our album stigma.’
The venue was resonant with beautiful timbre from Sirène’s guitar. It was ‘Pray in the darkness’, a symphonic song with stylized beauty. Furthermore, it enabled us to enjoy the rich and unconstrained singing voice of Empress Yui. It was joyful, and we all became intoxicated by the voice of Her Fairyness. The flamboyant music seemed to take me away, but that didn’t stop me from listening to it with every fiber of my being.
A sound of strings cut through the atmosphere. Suddenly, a blasting sound came forth, almost drowning out the strings. It was Gothic, symphonic, and loud. ‘Kami no Souzou’ leaped out at us. We were intoxicated by beauty and a certain sense of mellow from the heroic singing voice. We surrendered and devoted our lives to Yousei Teikoku with our fists still high in the air, for their fusion of Gothic, loud, and symphonic sound.
The atmosphere changed. A heavy sound slowly filled the venue, as if dragging us into an abyss. ‘Elusion’ began to play and the subjects started to calm down. The sublime and mellow song made us feel a little bit drunk. The music was getting aggressive towards the end, and we were thrown into a moment of passion. Empress Yui’s inflectional singing voice was full of emotions. She danced passionately and her voice was very satisfying.
The song depicted fleeting beauty. Such fragile beauty was reflected in her.
During the tour, I realized that the numbers of female subjects is increasing. ‘To all our male subjects, watch out, otherwise you might feel out of place before long. I’ll deal with all our female subjects.’
The melody of the glorious symphonic song ‘filament’ began to stream and the atmosphere in the venue changed. Empress Yui enthusiastically sang the melody along the fluent and euphoric music. Burning heat rose from her voice and the music. My heart and ears were following her singing full of unsettled emotions. Enchanted by the voice of a dark lullaby, I was completely immersed in the glorious symphony.
A delicate tune was luring the subjects in the strange world. The ballad ‘Simulacra’ began and the venue was filled with quiet excitement. Empress Yui looked like an angel, or a fallen angel, rather. ‘Simulacra’ depicted a sense of fleeting beauty. Such fragile beauty was also reflected in her.
She transformed into an insane songstress surrounded by deafening sound.
After a dynamic drum solo, a profound and splendid bass solo, and a ferocious battle session between guitars, the latter half of concert began.
The band played the prelude of ‘D chronicle’ which was full of heat. The music lured Empress Yui to the stage. The insanely beautiful melody and voice seems to penetrate my being. The song seemed to be encouraging me to lose all rationality. Empress Yui sang as if the emotions were almost painful. She transformed into an insane songstress surrounded by deafening sound. I was absolutely spellbound by her voice.
‘Are you still good? Don’t forget your shout!’, she shouted and ‘Shadow Corps’ began to play. The extreme music was at full blast. The imperial subjects roared to the heavy and aggressive music. Empress Yui sang with her iconic, smooth voice while enjoying her subjects’ shouts. The venue was shaken by the roars and it felt really good.
Then it was time for ‘DISORDER’, an avant-garde rock song with a hint of cuteness. It’s a fusion of the raging sound of the band and familiar pop song melody. However, that wasn’t all, as it had volatile energy in its core. I was impressed with its explosive and melodious rock sound.
I lost my mind and just desired to get involved with the frenzy of dancing and shouting.
‘Are you having fun? Are you ok? Don’t lose your heart. More exciting songs are standing by. Are you ready to shout? Is your shout genuine?’
Empress Yui stood on a podium on the stage. She declared, ‘The anthem for our state and our beloved royal subjects, “Patriot Anthem”.’ After the declaration, she began to sing and recite ‘Patriot Anthem’. All the royal subjects were involved in shouts and calls to Empress Yui, as if they were communicating with her. It was a heated exchange. Empress Yui and Yousei Teikoku destroyed our rational mind and transformed us into wild animals. We sang after her and shouted. Our Empress also shouted, ‘my loyal subjects, shout as loud as you can… Release your anger and frustration.’ We answered with roars to her shouts repeatedly.
A solemn and heavy sound began to flow towards us. The Gothic symphonic song pf the new single, ‘flamma idola’, poured red-hot heat into the ceremony. Empress Yui’s glossy voice seems to encourage us to be impulsive. All I wanted to do was dance and shout. Our excitement intensified chaotically towards the finale of the concert.
It was a battle. A feverish embrace of the souls of Yousei Teikoku.
Our frantic call for an encore seemed never-ending and Yousei Teikoku responded with ‘Birodo Papilio’. A loud noise dominated the venue. Slowly, heavily, and violently, as if playing a riff with her voice, Empress Yui sang an incorporating falsetto and the venue was brought back to the darkness by its heavy Gothic sound. She sang and danced to the heavy sound swaying her body in an almost sensual way.
Are you enjoying yourselves? Do you have any power left? Not enough rampage? Let’s have a blast!
The sound of magnificent and symphonic ‘Kuusou Mesorogiwi’ charged at us. Empress Yui stirred us up from the stage. I couldn’t stop my blazing excitement. My feelings were out of control and I was now in the red zone. It was a battle. A feverish embrace of the souls of Yousei Teikoku and their subjects exchanging shouts and passions.
I hope the royal subjects overseas can experience such excitement one day.
‘Are you following us? Here we go with full throttle!’ The final blow from Yousei Teikoku was ‘Geki’ and everyone was rampaging in the booming sound. We raised our fists high and shouted loud, as though the experience would be imprinted on our flesh. We reached the climax of the feast. We shout at the top of our voice again and again until the very end. We exchanged words such as ‘praise’, ‘das’, ‘fear’, ‘fin’, ‘prosper’, and ‘reich’. I hope the royal subjects overseas can experience such excitement one day.
The frenzy will be passed on to Anisong World Matsuri at Otakon 2017, an overseas event in which Yousei Teikoku will take part. If you have a chance to watch Yousei Teikoku, be ready for outrageous excitement.
