Individual Series Introductions
Today we shall be looking at the three TV anime series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross 7, and Macross Frontier.
The Super Dimension Fortress Macross SUMMARY
The year is 1999, and a giant alien warship unexpectedly crash-lands on Earth. Mankind learns of the existence of alien civilizations, and of their wars. By reverse-engineering the alien ship, immense technological advances are made.
A period of war breaks out on Earth, culminating in the creation of a single world government. The new unified global army that is formed is put in charge of repairing the crashed vessel.
Jump ahead ten years. 2009.
Designated the SDF-1 Macross, the repaired warship is about to be deployed to its station, when it suddenly acts of its own accord and fires its main cannon against the wishes of its crew, destroying a nearby alien vessel.
Seeing this, the alien race known as the Zentradi takes up arms and begins an assault on planet Earth. It becomes clear that the crashed warship, the Macross, had in fact been cleverly boobytrapped.
As the Macross launches for the first time, it must immediately go into action.
Hikaru Ichijo, a civilian pilot who had come to watch the inauguration ceremony of the Macross, casually boards a high-tech transforming fighter known as a Valkyrie, and before he knows what is happening he is mistaken to be a military pilot and sortied. Amidst the war that ensues, Hikaru meets an air traffic controller for the unified global army, Misa Hayase, and the daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner Lynn Minmay.
In order to escape the overwhelming battle expertise of the Zentradi, the Macross “folds” into space. However, the Macross is still barely out of testing, and the fold is a failure. The ship is instantly transported through the fold into the outer reaches of the solar system, along with an entire island taken right off the surface of the planet, and its 56,000 inhabiting civilians! With no way of knowing the fate of the Earth, and with the Zentradi in constant pursuit, the Macross must begin its long and arduous journey back home.

Macross 7 SUMMARY
The year is 2045. 35 years have passed since Lynn Minmay’s song put an end to the intergalactic war.
The new 7th Macross warship has been traveling for 7 years, seeking a new planet for mankind to migrate to. Over 1 million people live peacefully on the ship. However, one day, a surprise attack hits the Macross 7’s advance guard.
As this is happening, a rock concert by the band “Firebomber” is being held at an outdoor stadium in Macross City Park.
The lead vocalist and guitar player is the super-phenom Basara Nekki. On vocals and bass is the 7th daughter of Max and Milia: Mylene Flare Jenius. On guitar, the leader of the band, Ray Lovelock. On drums is the quiet Zentradi, Veffidas Feaze.
As the concert roars, the enemy fighters close on the main Macross fleet.
Who are these attackers? And what could their motivations be?
The gigantic Macross 7, carrying over 1 million citizens, is caught in a whirlwind and has no choice but to fight…

Macross Frontier SUMMARY
Famed pop idol singer Sheryl Nome visits the Macross Frontier Colonial Fleet to perform a concert.
She is a proud individual who consistently tops the hit music charts of the Galactic Network.
Ranka Lee is a young singer herself, aspiring to become as popular as Sheryl.
At present, however, she is merely a part-time worker at a Chinese restaurant.
She is the adopted younger sister of Ozma Lee, an ace Valkyrie pilot in the special military unit SMS.
However, Ozma’s true occupation is unknown to his adopted little sister, since he conceals it from her for fear that she may worry about his safety.
As Ranka hurries to the Sheryl Nome concert, she meets a young high school student in a piloting course, Alto Saotome.
It was a common chance meeting…
But just then, the Frontier is attacked by unknown foes; a species that mankind has ever encountered before. As the battle rages, the Colonial Fleet sustains more and more damage, and even the VF Squadron is shocked at the power of the alien attackers.
Worse, the unknown aliens have infiltrated the civilian areas.
The SMS VF-25 Squadron, led by Ozma Lee, is deployed to take control of the situation.
But what are these unknown aliens? How many are they? What are they capable of? And what is their objective?
