It’s been 9 years since the TV series of The Irregular at Magic High School aired. Now a completely new story by original creator Tsutomu Sato will be released in the movie The Irregular at Magic High School The Move -The Girl Who Summons the Stars-. MANGA.TOKYO brought you a report of the pre-screening which took place in Shibuya’s Wald 9 and was crowned with the appearance of Yuichi Nakamura (voice of Tatsuya Shiba), Saori Hayami (Miyuki Shiba), Yumi Uchiyama (Erika Chiba), Takuma Terashima (Leonhart Saijo), Yoko Hikasa (Angelina Kudo Shields) and Konomi Kohara (Kokoa). This time we are bringing you a full photo report!
The cast came on stage under the massive applause of the excited audience. After a short self-introduction’, they answered questions about their work. Nakamura, who was greeted with lots of ‘Onii-sama!’ cheers from the audience, talked about the staff for this movie, which is completely different from the one of the TV series. ‘I think this movie was produced thinking a lot about the series, which is why most people won’t notice any differences.’ Hayami, who talked after her ‘Onii-sama’, said, ‘This movie was made about my brother’ and made the audience laugh. ‘The movie was made to unfold its complete potential in the cinema’ she explained further, to justify why this movie was different to the anime.
As the main theme of the movie is the spring holidays, Uchiyama said, ‘It’s a vacation. It was very refreshing because there weren’t many scenes in school uniforms.’ Terashima added, ‘Each character also gets to wear their personal clothes, showing their own personality. I think it’s a great fan service for the male fans.’
When Yoko Hikasa, who is voicing the character Lina who appears for the first time in this movie, asks Hayami what we can look forward to in Magic High School, Hayami answered with a straight face: ‘Of course that would be Onii-sama’ making Hikasa realize she had asked the wrong person and the audience laughed. And Kohara, who is playing one of the key characters in the series, said, ‘To see the completed movie with the staff and cast made me tear up a little bit from happiness.’ She also said that her worry and happiness mixed together when she heard that she would be able to participate in such a popular production as this.
In the end, it seems the things to look forward to are all a bit pervy: the fan service that was put into the movie by the production team without missing a single scene, Shizuku’s swimsuit seems to be strange and the filming angles are questionable. ‘These kind of things left a very strong impression,’ Nakamura said strongly and Hayami made the whole place roar in laughter once again by saying ‘Onii-sama’ as the thing to most look forward to.
At the end, the cast left a message for the fans.
‘I am so happy that I joined this movie. The movie is good because the story expands in a second and Kokoa-chan is enveloped in mysteries. So please keep a close eye on her. Thank you very much.’
‘A catchline of the movie is also “The strongest vs. the strongest”, which people would connect to Lina and Tatsuya. Lina is appearing for the first time in the anime through this movie, so please look forward to seeing her come to life and interact with Tatsuya.’
‘The Irregular at Magic High School has many different sides to it, and I think what people like about the series is different for everybody,. It’s a movie that will stay with all. The force and speed this movie is going at is suitable for a theater movie and I think it is not wrong to call this one of the best movies for fans.’
‘This movie is really packed with attractive things. Please come to see this movie a lot and thank you for your support.’
‘I am happy that so many of you came and that this movie gets supported by so many different people. I watched the movie at home and there are serious scenes and bright scenes and the lighting is so different. To see such small differences in a scenes is making the movie so wonderful. I would be happy if you could enjoy this movie because of all its different elements like the sound, art, voice, story, etc.’
‘Thank you for waiting so patiently for this movie, but it finally is done. This movie is stuffed with fan service (laugh) but you will also find many charms from the TV series again in this work. I think everybody will be able to enjoy it while thinking back at the TV series. Even though I think you will feel like the movie is over in the blink of an eye, please enjoy it. Thank you very much.’
