Sound! Euphonium the Movie: Final Oath (Hibike! Euphonium – Chikai no Finale) opened in Japanese movie theaters on 19 April 2019. To commemorate the release of the movie, a stage greeting event took place on 20 April at Shinjuku Piccadilly Cinema in Tokyo. Stars including Tomoyo Kurosawa (Kumiko Oumae), Ayaka Asai (Hazuki Kato), Moe Toyota (Sapphire Kawashima), Chika Anzai (Reina Kosaka), Haruki Ishiya (Shuichi Tsukamoto), Sora Amamiya (Kanade Hisaishi), Konomi Fujimura (Natsuki Nakagawa), Yuri Yamaoka (Yuko Yoshikawa) appeared on stage along with director Tatsuya Ishihara. the audience at the venue enjoyed their talk about the best parts of the new movie, and their thoughts on the characters they portrayed.
Kurosawa looked back her journey with the series and said, ‘When I went to the audition for this anime, it was meant to last for just 13 episodes’, going on to express her excitement at seeing Kumiko move onto second-year, ‘I’m really happy… I couldn’t believe how she has grown up so much.’
As Kumiko and her band mates go up a grade, Their brass band welcomes their new first-year members. Kanade stands out among them for her strong personality. Kanade’s voice actress Amamiya said, ‘Although the first-year students were all unique and have their own distinct personalities, the elder band members welcome them with open arms. I think they are really nice people.’ She evaluated the character she portrayed as, ‘rather cocky but not a bad person at all.’ Kurosawa said, ‘I like her,’ and Amamiya replied, ‘You’re flattering me.’ The stars seemed to be very close and in perfect sync with the characters they portray.
Kurosawa gave the last greeting at the event on behalf of everyone. ‘I don’t know why but I feel extremely happy at this moment,’ she said. Her voice trembled with overwhelming emotion and tears rolled down her cheeks. ‘I think this movie was made with love. It’s impossible to create such a beautiful movie without it. Some anime works are great because they never change and become a rock for us. However, this one tells us the brilliance of transformation. I hope I can see how cool Kumiko and her band mates will be when they go up to year 3. Please keep watching over them,’ she said thankfully. While fighting back tears she said with a smile, ‘I don’t know why I’m crying.’ The fans at the venue gave a warm round of applause. The whole venue was filled with friendly kindness – just like the anime itself.
Finally, the stars gathered for the official photographs. Anzai amused the fans by instructing Kurosawa, ‘You should retouch your make up, hurry!’ I was impressed by their back-and-forth on stage which was just like their characters.
