Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai 2017 took place on 1-3 September 2017 at Makuhari Messe International Exhibition Hall 1-3, Chiba. Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai is an event that lets fans enjoy the never-ending creations inspired by the virtual singer, Hatsune Miku. 2017 marks the fifth year of this annual event.
To celebrate the event’s 5th anniversary, the creators of the event’s theme songs gathered on stage at Exhibition Hall 2 on the first day. They presented songs for Hatsune Miku in DJ & live style.
Keisei, who won the grand prize at the Hatsune Miku song contest at Niconico Chokaigi in April 2017, was the first to appear on stage. His winning song ‘Singularity’ was featured at this year’s live concert which took place directly before this performance. He gave a superb DJ performance with ‘Singularity’ and ‘Sychronicity’, while confessing his anxiousness for being on stage. His performance got the audience’s blood pumping, with everybody waving green glow sticks in time to the music.
Next to appear on stage was Satsuki ga Tenkomori, the creator of ‘Next Nest’, the theme song for Magical Mirai 2014. ‘Are you ready to some more fun?’, he asked the audience. They replied with energetic cheers as if saying, ‘You can bet on us!’ He started his exciting DJ tracklist as if responding, ‘You’d better listen to this!’ While performing ‘Next Nest’, he called, ‘Next?’, and the audience responded, ‘Nest!’ During the song ‘Ton Ton Mae!’, everyone in the venue jumped with while shouting ‘Ton Ton Mae!’ Satsuki ga Tenkomori delivered a show where every audience member was united and went into a frenzy of excitement.
Following Satsuki ga Tenkomori was kz (livetune), who made the 2015 theme song ‘Hand in Hand’. He has been creating his own Miku world with a clear sound and beautiful lyrics. On this day, he performed Miku’s songs including ‘Finder’ and ‘Yellow’. His performance demonstrated his talent in arrangement by rendering the gentleness and beauty of the songs while maintaining the excitement of the audience. ‘As the title of the event has the word “mirai” (future), I’d like to finish my show with a song remixed by a young person’, he stated before his last song, and performed ‘Satisfaction’. The audience was impressed by his determination.
Last, the creator of last year’s theme song ’39 Music’, Mikito-P, appeared on stage. Whereas other creators performed their songs in a DJ style, he sang his representative songs including ‘Shinzou Democracy’ and ‘Ii Aru Fanclub’ wholeheartedly, backed by his band. He performed the flamboyant ’39 Music’ as his last song, and then sang ‘Good School Girl’ for his encore. He was the person who spent his adolescent days with Miku. I felt that he chose this song that is full of adolescent nostalgia for an encore to share some encouraging cheers to Miku’s teenage fans.
The live show went on for 2 hours. The audience who were standing there from the previous show, Hatsune Miku Live Show, had stayed in the hall for more than 4 hours. However, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, waving green glow sticks, jumping, calling, and singing along without a hint of tiredness. Every audience member had a great time with Hatsune Miku.
Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai will be back in 2018 at Intex Osaka and Makuhari Messe. Why not join the event and immerse yourself in Hatsune Miku’s world? It’s guaranteed you will have an unforgettable and happy time.
