Fall 2017 Anime: Official Twitter Hashtags & Pages
The MANGA.TOKYO staff had its share of summer. Now, all we wish is for the hot and humid weather to go away and give its place to the red and cool autumn.
Magic of Stella is a popular four-panel manga series written by Kuroba U. Its TV anime adaptation was broadcast from October to December 2016 and followed protagonist Tamaki as she joined a club named SNS (‘Shinda sakana no me, Nisshou busoku, Shuttle-run bu’ Eyes of dead fish, Lack of sunshine, Shuttle-run club) in order to make doujin games.
The anime has a relaxing tempo with some comical aspects, and the club members’ friendship and warm atmosphere are some of the charms of the story.
The talk event was separated into Part 1 (daytime) and Part 2 (night time). Both parts had the same guests coming up on stage: Maria Naganawa (Tamaki Honda), Rie Murakawa (Shiina Murakami), Ari Ozawa (Ayame Seki), Aoi Yuki (Kayo Fujikawa), Ryouko Maekawa (Yumine Fuda), and Shino Shimoji (Marika Shimizu) who had performed the anime’s opening theme.
Because Maekawa caught the flu and was absent for the event which was held in February, the last time these members all gathered together was on 2 October 2016 at the advance screening event of Episode 1. It was a very rare and valuable opportunity for the fans to see the cast members all together!

The cast members took turns in acting as the host of the event, and Naganawa first took the chair during a segment titled ‘Look-Back Talk.’ The members spoke about their favorite scenes while shots from those scenes were shown on the big screen.
Murakawa chose the scene in Episode 3 in which the man who is a personification of the game options window appears. This man was voiced by Jurouta Kosugi, a very experienced voice actor, and during the dubbing, Kosugi recorded the line ‘Yay’ in over ten different tones. Murakawa recalled this dubbing and mentioned that she heard the most beautiful ‘Yay’ in her life.
Ozawa, on the other hand, chose the scene from ‘Engawa Gokko,’ in which young Tamaki had been sitting on top of a playground slide and acted as if she were sitting out on an engawa (Japanese-type veranda).
Yuki chose the scene in Episode 7 in which Yumine imagines a BL (yaoi) scene between Tamaki and Kayo. Yuki’s choice made the audience burst out in laughter.
Maekawa also chose the same scene and recalled the dubbing. In this scene, Yumine blames herself for having such a weird imagination and starts banging her head on the wall. To express this, Maekawa shook her head back and forth while recording her voice, so the other cast members felt a soft wind coming from her.
Shimoji chose the scene in Episode 4 where Marika says ‘tehepero’ (a Japanese slang used when expressing a shy giggle). Although this line was not written in the script, Shimoji felt that it was the perfect word for the scene.
Finally, Naganawa chose the scene from Episode 1, in which Tamaki decides to join the SNS club, remembering what she had always wanted to do. Naganawa mentioned happily, ‘The scene made me strongly realize that the Magic of Stella anime was really going to start.’
Next was the live dubbing segment, which was hosted by Murakawa. During this segment, some of the best scenes from the anime were dubbed in front of the fans. The relaxing atmosphere during the talking segment had completely changed, and the cast members became very serious. The BL scene from Episode 7 which was mentioned earlier was also dubbed. There was a moment where a cast member made a mistake in her line, and these kind of things are one of the most exciting things that occur during a live event.
In the segment titled ‘Let’s Join our Powers Together! SNS Club Challenge (Chikara wo Awaseru! SNS-bu Game Challenge)’ which was hosted by Maekawa, the members played many games, such as finding the mistakes and choosing the ‘couple’ with something in common out of random words. It was announced that the members would win a prize if they were able to complete more than two games, so they all ran around aggressively to complete their missions. Thanks to their efforts, they were able to win in three games out of four. The members each won a box of Red Bull cans.
During the read-aloud segment hosted by Ozawa, the members read aloud a scene from the original manga which had not been adapted into the anime!
The last segment of the event was a live concert. The first song was the ending theme ‘Yonakajikaru,’ sung by Naganawa and Maekawa.
The next song was ‘Pu.Re.Ze.N.To’ (Present) performed by Shimoji who had changed into a red dress. She sang the song in a beautiful and smooth voice.
The final song was the opening theme ‘God Save The Girls’, and this performance made the fans’ excitement reach its peak. The event hall sparkled with the fans’ pen lights.
During the last greetings, each cast member talked about their love towards Magic of Stella, and asked for the fans’ support for the continuing original manga.
