The anime movie Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice), which won the Anime category of the 26th Japan Film Critics Grand Prize, earned ¥2.3 billion at the box office and attracted more than 1,770,000 movie goers.
The Blu-ray & DVD went on sale on Wednesday 17 May and it held the first place spot on the Oricon Daily Ranking from 18 May! There was an event celebrating the Blu-ray & DVD announcement on Sunday 22 May at Marunouchi Picadilly.
It has been approximately eight months since the release date and present at the 30th stage greeting event were Saori Hayami, who plays the heroine Shouko Nishimiya, Yuuki Kaneko (Naoka Ueno), and Yui Ishikawa (Miyoko Sahara). Before their entrance, an animated video featured the theme songs ‘Koi shita no wa’ by aiko and ‘speed of youth’ by Kensuke Ushio, which are both included in the Blu-ray set.
At the beginning of the stage greeting, a message from Director Naoko Yamada (Kyoto Animation) was read aloud. Director Yamada said, ‘All the involved staff engrossed themselves in making this film. That goes without saying for the film itself but the bonus features, the package design, the menu screen, everything was made with the love of the staff. I really recommend the limited edition set.’
Ishikawa commented, ‘I would be glad if this work is one that you can watch when you stumble a little or want to stay still and it will give you a little push. I would like many more people to see it from now on as well.’ Kaneko said, ‘There are many characters that appear in the movie, so I think there has to be at least one or two that you can relate to. I would be happy if you could watch it over and over comparing yourself to the characters or thinking of many things.’ Hayami commented, ‘I think that this film is one that even if after watching it, you take the same road home, take your usual bath, and sleep as usual, it makes you feel like that day was different. I would be happy if you could reflect upon it while you watch.’
