An opening greeting event to commemorate the release of the latest feature-length animated movie by Makoto Shinkai Kimi no Na wa. was held in August 28 with Ryunosuke Kamiki, Mone Kamishirai, and Masami Nagasawa.
Kamiki showed up with the same bracelet that appears in the movie and Kamishirai had the same hairstyle as Mitsuha, both showing their strong affection for their characters.
The movie had been released two days before the event and already had more than 590,000 visitors. Neither Kamiki nor the director Makoto Shinkai could realize the huge success the movie was experiencing. Kamiki was astonished when she heard the MC saying, “Mega hit tantamount to social phenomenon”. The director Makoto Shinkai said in puzzlement, “I’m not sure how to react to this number haha…”. Because of the unexpectedly great response from the audiences, the movie has a strong probability of winning several awards in future film festivals. The movie is scheduled to be released in 85 countries!
The director Makoto Shinkai mentioned that he included Japanese ancient customs and traditions as well as some depictions reflecting the aftermath of the Tohoku earthquake in the movie. “Originally, I didn’t make the movie aiming for global success but instead, I tried to put our surrounding small local world and wishes as well as hopes into this movie. I’m very happy to share it all with the people around the world. It’s just unbelievable!”
Kamiki is very hopeful regarding the film’s worldwide success, “I wanna walk the red carpet with everyone!”.
Kamiki took a small lesson on how to walk the red carpet properly from his senior, actress Masami Nagasawa, who has experience walking the red carpet at the Cannes International Film Festival. When Kamishirai asked Nagasawa for advice on what dress to wear, Nagawasa responded, “Why don’t you put on a pretty dress? I think you should wear a dress that best suits you”. The comment excited the audience.
Kamiki and Kamishirai have already seen the movie on the big screen and told us they were both very impressed and deeply touched by it. Kamishirai said, “I love Mitsuha so much. I think I had been acting to meet Mitsuha someday!” showing her special feelings for her character.
Kimi no Na wa. is now showing throughout Japan.
