Sega games introduced their newest smartphone game project for women called Readyyy! during a presentation on 26 August 2018.
Presenting the game on stage was Kenji Kanno from the Sega headquarters. He explained to the fans in the audience that ‘Sega has produced many games and Readyyy! is a new large-scale project aimed towards women, which will expand in a variety of fields including the sale of CDs and other goods, events and more. We are working hard to create content that will bring joy to the fans, so please look forward to its release!”
At this point, Masaya Matsukaze took over as the host. He introduced some of the contents of the project like the main base: the smartphone game.
In the game, we follow 18 characters that are currently living through adolescence- that fine line that separates children and adults – and we see how the characters grow over time. There is nothing so dramatic as the change from a child to an adult, the gap between youthful dreams and reality and stepping out of the protection of adults. It is a successful story in which the boys try to become idols, face themselves, their friends, the adults they are surrounded by and all the influences coming from outside and still move forward while time is passing unforgivingly.
An exceptional team came together to produce this game. The character designs are by Ebira and adapted by Mitsue Mori (who also adapted the characters of Uta no Prince-sama for animation). The character production is being handled by the well-known animation studio Production I.G, the backgrounds are handled by Deho Gallery and the CG music videos are brought to us by DandeLion Animation Studio. Fans can expect high-quality backgrounds and look forward to changes according to seasons as well as the time of the day. Using Live2D technology, the movement of the characters will be so smooth that it’ll feel as if you are watching an anime.
The 18 characters are divided into 5 units, who all are attending one of three schools. There is the all-boys high school with the ocean right before its doors, a very sports-oriented school that attracts students who want to become professional athletes, and a co-educational school, which is known for its school events. The idols are part of a support system where they get to live in a share house with the others, so the player can also look forward to their interactions during their daily lives.
After the first introduction, Rui Kuroki from Production I.G came on stage and said, ‘Production I.G usually focuses on producing anime or movies where the animation is moving, but for this game, we are challenging a new kind of work, as for the game they only need one picture. I will do my best to finish this work well.’ Next on stage was Emiko Nishida from DandeLion, who produce the music videos. ‘For Readyyy! we are involved in the planning stage of the project. To be the first one to give these new characters movement was a big hurdle but we give our all while producing them and hope we can fulfill your expectations.’
The next part was an introduction of the artists who wrote the songs. ONIGAWARA sent a video comment to the venue, ‘We wrote the song “Daitan Futeki ni Koishitai” for the unit Just 4U. The arrangement was done by CHOKKAKU and is an amazing song, so please listen to it!’
Another message came from SHIROSE from WHITE JAM, who said, ‘When I wrote the song, the members of the unit hadn’t been decided yet. So it’s interesting to have it all happen the other way round and see characters born from a song, who then take shape in the real world. I heard that they are selling badges of RayGlanZ at Animate so I think I want to start by buying that. Normally, fans and artists are there first and thanks to them the songs are formed, but it is so interesting to see that it is the other way around for this project. This project, that is still at its beginning, is already priceless. I think the song “GO NOW!” will probably change its meaning depending on the things the fans see and the interpretation of the artists. I will “GO NOW!” to Animate and look forward to the project!’ The joke gained many chuckles from the audience.
The next part was new announcements for the game. First, they showed a key visual for the group SP!CA. Visuals of other units will be released sequentially in the future.
The game user is producing the idols, is the leader of the dormitory, and also leads the idol boys, helping them grow. The story progresses in chapters and features events from everyday life, lessons, and idol activities. The user can train six different abilities of the idols, and depending on the player’s choices, those abilities are leveled up. The idols can also learn special skills.
There is also a function called photo shooting, and you can use the material gathered during the gameplay to ‘bloom’ the photo. If you save up enough experience points during the chapters, you also have the chance to unlock original stories. During the presentation, they showed some cards in their un-bloomed form, where the idols are practicing, and then bloomed, where the idol is standing on stage.
It is also possible to pre-register for the game already (Japanese only). For the biggest milestones, there will be presents for users who have pre-registered, so you will receive diamonds, which can be used to draw idol cards at random, or they will release a music video of a unit once a certain number of pre-registrations is reached.
Future activities of the game include an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show 2018, where they will hold a special stage at the Sega Game booth, and from Fall 2018, an online radio programme will start on the official YouTube channel and the internet radio station Onsen. In November, there will be a collaboration cafe at Sega Ikebukuro GiGO. They also plan a special program, where they’ll announce new features.
The opening movie of the game produced by Production I.G was also presented to the audience. During the video, fans get to see the animated characters, who show different facial expressions. Many of the animated idols received delighted screams for their expressions.
In the background, we can hear the song ‘The Beginning Place’, sung by the leader of each of the five units. The song was written by Gin from BUSTED ROSE, who said, ‘We were able to record with all leaders together and they harmonized so well, it was a lot of fun. I wrote the song while imagining the start of everybody’s youth. Please look forward to the full version of the song!’
The guests then gave a final comment. Kuroki said, ‘I think it is a wonderful opening. The enthusiastic cheers fill me with energy and we will keep working hard to produce the game!’
Nishida said, ‘We are preparing the music video for La-veritta, so please look forward to it!’. Kanno said, ‘From now on as well I will work hard on Readyyy! so that all the fans will say it is a work that they need in their free time. Please watch over us!’
