Hello, this is Okuno!
Have you already watched Shin Godzilla (Godzilla Resurgence)? I personally love the art and story of Godzilla. As the Blu-ray came out in Japan on 22 March 2017, the Godzilla-fever broke out once again. Sweets Paradise took the chance and collaborated with the King of Monsters.
The new Shin Godzilla café has an amazing menu with special food and drinks. I just had to visit!
Sweets Paradise is normally a really cute shop…
Right at the entrance, there was a cute sign that read ‘Godzilla vs. Sweets Paradise’.
The MANGA.TOKYO staff is so tall (184cm)! Even lining up we can clearly be seen. Here we fight with Godzilla.
The place was full with scenes from Shin Godzilla and of older films. Wow… So many scenes! Mothra, King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla, and Biollante.
Of course, Minilla was there as well. It goes without saying that this was a good choice.
Just when I was about to sit down at my table – Aaah! – there is the footprint of Godzilla on my table! How cool… This is great, I am already excited.
There are tables with and without the print, so choose wisely! Even though there were many hearts on the walls of the café (I thought that the gap between the cuteness and Godzilla was extreme) it felt like the red of the wall fitted the Godzilla theme nicely.
The monitor was playing the trailer of Shin Godzilla. I got more and more excited for my food.
Food full of Godzilla references
That took some time! It’s time to eat!
I wanted to order the most special food of the menu… So first, my favorite! The ‘Godzilla 4th-form soda’.
Waaah! This is the greatest form! The 4th form! It is a sparkling drink with ice cubes. The color gives it a slightly radiant feeling.
Look at this. It’s hard to explain in words, but the color of the drink changes. It’s so beautiful. I wanted to keep looking at it the whole time. The grape jelly flavor made it really delicious.
Next up is Godzilla vs Pancake!
It’s a chibi version of Godzilla and Mothra! How cute!!
The pancakes are very soft and a rich buttery aroma plays with your senses. Below the character artwork is some cream waiting to be discovered. You get a little pot of syrup that gives more sweetness to the dish.Oh? Now that I think about it, wasn’t that a picture of King Ghidorah on the pancakes on
Oh? Now that I think about it, wasn’t there a picture of King Ghidorah on the pancakes on the menu? Yes, there was! There are four different characters that could come with the pancakes, so even if you and your friend both order the pancakes, it’s possible you’ll end up having different characters on it!
The light and delicious Godzilla Latte also has different pictures on it. They are kinda hard to see though.
And here is the spicy tomato juice with Kure Kure Takora on it! I asked why he was there and it turns out he is also produced by Toho and he collaborates with Godzilla.
The small picture of Takora is so cute. The pepper, lemon, and tabasco blend well together. It is a tasteful drink for adults, but I think the spiciness also symbolizes how cuteness and darkness work together in Takora’s story.
The most popular item on the menu is the Yashiori Sakusen Curry. The pickles are the unmanned bombs thrown at Godzilla, who is pictured in the food (he is edible). Destroy Godzilla! The curry is a black curry that turns from sweet to spicy. Ah, and how delicious it was!
The orange liquid in the syringe is chili oil. You can use it to change the taste of the curry, adjusting it with every bite.
Your order is always accompanied with one of these coasters.
You can get one at random from 15 different designs. Some customers seemed to have come back multiple times to get the coasters, but completing the set in one day seems close to impossible.
Wow! Included in the range of coasters is my favorite monster, Hedorah! All of them are cool, but I really want Hedorah, so I guess I have to come again…
Close to the checkout is a sales corner with merchandise, including classic Japanese souvenirs like pies and cookies!! If you open the pie box, Godzilla turns! The cushion of Godzilla’s 2nd form, which I thought would only be available online, was there as well. So cute, I want to get it right now!
That’s not all! Sweets Paradise’s Charm!
The collaboration menu is only a small part of Sweets Paradise.
There are about 30 cakes you can choose from, and it is all-you-can-eat. Of course, there is also pasta, popcorn, and other snacks available (also all-you-can-eat) so you can mix things up and send your mouth on an adventure.
These were the cakes available when I was there.
The cakes are cut into small pieces, to allow visitors to try as many as possible, so you can still enjoy them after eating the collaboration food.
The cake is all shiny! Sweets Paradise is such a precious place. Just the picture alone is enough to make you want to eat it. Each season has its own limited edition cakes, so you will always find something new to try!
The Godzilla collaboration will be in Osaka and Tokyo until 23 April 2017. Then it moves to Hiroshima and Nagoya.
Well then, I’ll be off to the café once again! See you!
