MT is here with a report on the preview screening event for High School DxD Hero, titled Gather round, gentlemen! High School DxD HERO!
This anime series is based on a light novel series written by Ichiei Ishibumi, and three seasons have been produced so far: High School DxD in 2012, High School DxD NeW in 2013, and High School DxD Born in 2015. The coming fourth season has the subtitle HERO, which stands for H (pronounced ‘ecchi’ and the first letter of ‘hentai’ aka ‘pervert’) and ERO (from ‘erotic’). Previous subtitles also had slightly perverted wordplay, such as NeW, which is pronounced the same as the word 乳 (nyuu) which means ‘breasts’, and BorN is thought to sound like big breasts bouncing. The capital W and B also look somewhat like boobs! The fourth season is a sequel to the previous seasons, although the character designs have slightly changed.
The story starts with Issei Hyoudou, a dumb and lecherous second-year high school student at Kuou Academy, getting trapped by a fallen angel. Issei has a powerful Sacred Gear called ‘Gauntlet of Red Dragon Emperor.’ and his life is in danger because of it. Issei is killed but is revived and turned into a devil by Rias Gremory, a third-year student and high-ranking devil. Issei and Rias gradually build a strong bond through battles against fallen angels and the Chaos Brigade. Issei also forms relationships with other pretty girls and aspires to become a Harem King.
The party event was held at Theather 1 of Shinjuku Piccadilly, a megaplex in Shinjuku, Tokyo. It started with the screen monitor showing a bed out of blue, with Akeno approaching Issei with her sexy voice. The footage is from the beginning of the first episode. Soon, Koneko and Asia join them on the bed and fight over Issei. He is both pleased and in anguish, and then Rias jumps on the bed and presses Issei with her breasts… a classic harem day for Issei.
In the middle of the footage, it showed a heated battle between Issei and Sairaorg Bael, the next heir of Bael Family. Action scenes for this season look to be a lot more powerful than those of previous seasons.
Later, Issei and other students leave for Kyoto on a school trip. It is said that the new series will mainly take place in Kyoto. What kind of encounters, battles, and sexy stuff await Issei this time around?
After the preview screening of the first episode, Mukai Tenshin, who is an entertainer, light-novel writer, and VA, led a talk show with the main cast. The guest speakers were the four main cast members: Yuuki Kaji who voices Issei, Youko Higasa for Rias, Azumi Asakura for Asia, and Shizuka Itou for Akeno. The talk show started with Tenshin shouting, ‘Do you like oppai~?’ (boobs) As each speaker blasted out this Japanese obscene word ‘oppai,’ some were worried they might be heard and offend someone outside the venue, but eventually, the show ended up being all about ‘oppai.’ Of course, they had some serious talks too. Kaji mentioned the high-quality of the new series in whole to realize the staff’s earnest efforts put into it. He revealed that he was actually worried how to deal with this character as a VA when he first started Season 1. Higasa and the others talked about the growth of the characters.
Here are the closing statements of the cast after the funny show.
Itou: ‘The series will be as bustling as this party. We’ll heat it up.’
Asakura: ‘I’d like to convey the fun we have at the studio to you via the series.’
Higasa: ‘I’d like to have an event with all the cast members present.’
Kaji: ‘Now I believe this role has become my representative work.’
Then the event ended with Higasa’s curse at last,
‘Watch it or you’ll miss all the oppai~!’
