By the time I finally regained my hearing after Friday’s concert, it was time for me to grab my borrowed glow stick and suit up for the final day of the Anisong World Matsuri at Otakon 2017 on 12 August 2017! Like the first night, the concert hall was filled to the brim with 3000 pumped con goers, all ready for an afternoon of phenomenal performances. The second concert featured performances from the gothic metal band Yousei Teikoku and the rock group FLOW.
This. Concert. Was. AWESOME! The final night of the AWM definitely went out with a bang, this was a concert I won’t ever forget! So let’s get this show on the road!!
I was not familiar with Yousei Teikoku, but when the Grand Dictator for Life Empress Yui (vocalist) entered the AWM stage bathed in red stage lights, I was mesmerized. We were all under her spell as she and her band powered through songs from several well known anime and video games, including, Future Diary, Queen’s Gate: Spiral Chaos, and Big Order.
With her ethereal voice, the Empress of the Fairy Empire officially inducted all of the gathered fans into Fairy Empire, by teaching us the chorus to Yousei Teikoku’s concert song, ‘Patriot Anthem’. Eager to please our mistress, myself and thousands of other audience members began chanting, ‘We Are Martyr, We Are Believer, And We Just Believe The Fairy!’ After the song ended, Yui-sama gazed out over her new subjects and declared in her regal voice, ‘You have… pleased me.’
Yousei Teikoku kept the momentum going for the remainder of their set, cranking out three hardcore heavy metal sets, including their new single, ‘flamma idola’. But the song that elicited the biggest response from the crowd was ‘Kouusou Mesorogiwi’, the original opening theme from anime Future Diary. After such an amazing set, we all needed some time to cool off, so the AWM paused for a brief intermission.
