Fall 2017 Anime: Official Twitter Hashtags & Pages
The MANGA.TOKYO staff had its share of summer. Now, all we wish is for the hot and humid weather to go away and give its place to the red and cool autumn.
Dive!!, the upcoming Summer 2017 anime, held an exciting pre-broadcast event, Cast and DIVE!! ~Pre-Broadcast Event~, on 25 June at United Cinema Aqua City in Odaiba, Tokyo. The event featured popular voice actors Yuki Kaji (Tomoki Sakai), Takahiro Sakurai (Yoichi Fujitani), Yuichi Nakamura (Shibuki Okitsu), and Tomokazu Sugita (Atsuhiko Yamada). Tickets sold out after just one minute, showing the premium atmosphere of the event and the venue reached its peak. The guests were also joined by the artists of the opening and ending theme songs, Qyoto and Yuta Hashimoto!
The original work, a youthful light novel written by Eto Mori, has sold more than 850,000 copies. It tells the story of a passionate group of young boys who put their all into the 1.4 second battle called the ‘dive’ so they can participate in the Olympics. With the straightforward title ‘Talk with the Cast!’, the cast members talked about each of their characters.
Yuki Kaji spoke about his character, the protagonist Tomoki, saying, ‘He is a boy that just loves diving and who admires Yoichi, who is voiced by Sakurai. I would like you to watch him grow.’ Kaji, who had already read the novel, said that the characters were close to his actual age and he recalled many things about his second year in middle school while acting.
The MC asked the cast to say the memorable lines that were displayed on the screen. Upon hearing this, Nakamura said ‘I don’t want to hear. I hear them every week,’ causing the audience to laugh.
Sakurai, who voices the thoroughbred diver Yoichi, said, ‘Yoichi is dealing with problems that regular people wouldn’t understand.’ Nakamura also drew laughter from the audience by saying Shibuki’s lines when it was his turn to speak. He said that Shibuki is an inexperienced person who looks at the long term. He said that Shibuki is a diamond in the rough who will go through personal growth.
Tomokazu Sugita, who plays Pinky Atsuhiko (pink swimsuits are his trademark) said with a laugh, ‘From his appearance, he seems a little different from the others, but he is a good person at the core so you can watch him calmly.’
Next, there was a corner called Let’s experience DIVE!! VR Lesson! Together with Nakamura’s overly detailed equipment explanation, Kaji and Sugita, who had changed into jerseys, came on stage and began the VR lesson. According to Sakurai, who had experienced it before, it is interesting because you can have conversations with the specially recorded original voices. It is a very detailed depiction and you ‘can see many areas. [laugh]’. Kaji recommended it, although he said that it was a little strange when Tomoki spoke to him as it was two people with the same voice having a conversation. However, you should definitely experience this new way to enjoy the world of Dive!!
They also introduced the team’s tracksuit lineup. Sugita joked around saying that his yellow tracksuit made him look like a worker at Don Quijote. Sugita is known for liking tracksuits and he was pleased with the quality, and suggested that those who like tracksuits should get one.
After the live performance, all the guests, including Qyoto and Yuta Hashimoto, took to the stage. Lots of new information was released and at the end, everyone gave a final greeting.
Sugita said, ‘In any case, Pinky is a good person at the core. He didn’t show up today (in Episodes 1 and 2) but I would like you to watch on the basis that you don’t judge him by his appearance and remember that he is, by principle, a good person.’ Nakamura, who is good friends with Sugita and incited laughter from beginning to end, said, ‘I am the 7th member of Qyoto’ because he was standing next to them and since he was fooling around the whole time, he reflected on his actions saying ‘There’s gonna be a meeting after this [laugh].’ Sakurai appealed to the audience, ‘Diving is not that major a sport so it would be nice if people could get to know diving through Dive!!.’ Finally, Kaji said, ‘I’m glad we finally got to see this day. It’s a sports anime. The realistic troubles and conflicts are the charm so please enjoy it.’
The anime Dive!! starts on 7 July. Additional cast is continuously being announced. The voice of Tomoki’s pet dog, Chiku, is listed as ‘???’ in the ending. Who will voice him? Look forward to the broadcast!
