The movie Pop in Q was anime movie to grace the very successful 2016. The new year for the popular anime started with a discussion panel on January 14 at Shinjuku Ward. The panel included 5 cast members and director Naoki Miyahara.
Producer Yuu Kanemaru was the coordinator of the event. After a short speech to the audience about the keyword ‘Poppin!’, the cast members and the director appeared on the stage. The venue was filled with 400 very enthusiastic audience members.
After the first greeting and the screening of the movie, the panel answered many questions, such as ‘are all members of the Poppin race good at dancing?’, ‘does the culture of Poppin music and instruments exist?’, ‘Does Remy have a human too?’ and more. There were also questions about the mysterious special clip after the credits that you could only see at the theater, ‘Who is that new character in the clip? Who is that blonde girl?’
The second round of greetings was also very enthusiastic. Although the audience included mostly repeaters, there were also some people who were seeing the movie for the first time, so the cast and director were careful to reveal less spoilers this time.
Seto: ‘Everyone Poppin! I hope we can enjoy talking with less spoilers since it’s before the screening.’
Ozawa: ‘I have the same hair pin as my character Asahi Oomichi! It’s cute so, and I know the men here probably won’t wear it, but please purchase one at the theater.’
Kurosawa: ‘My tummy is big because I ate a great meal from the morning! So I’m also same as Pocon today [laugh]’
Ishihara: ‘Hello everyone! I’m really happy and excited because I get to see everyone again.’
Hondo: ‘I hope we can talk about the highlights before the play.’
When director Miyahara said, ‘Everyone Poppin!’, all the audience members answered back loudly with ‘Poppin!’
Hondo: ‘So, the dancing scenes were great after all. It’s more interesting to see the differences in each heroine’s dancing!’
Kanemaru: ‘You should pay attention to the different dances of each heroine and the isotope Poppins by the same actor!’
Ishihara: ‘Personally, I like the scene where Izumi screams, “Ahhhh”, it moves me every time.’
Kurosawa: ‘I really liked the cityscape of the Valley of Time. I want everyone to enjoy the worldview where it makes you stay there forever and you can keep on eating the yummy cream stew.’
Ozawa: ‘I think it’s a very cute movie with but there are many powerful scenes when you watch it. Please enjoy those scenes that are made more powerful with music.’
Seto: ‘The limestone cave scene. It’s the scene that amazes me the most. Please take a look.’
Director: ‘I recommend that you enjoy everything including the songs that play throughout the movie.’
The cast members, the director, and the audience shared a special experience just for this special day! Hanazono Shrine is a shrine in Harajuku that has deep ties to culture and entertainment. The shrine’s Shinto Priest, Uchibori, prayed for the good fortune of this year for Pop in Q, cast, staff and many fans.
First, the participants stood up earnestly to start the purification ritual. The priest said a chant and then the director made an offering. Finally, everyone bowed twice, clapped twice, and bowed once again.
Producer Kanemaru: ‘Thank you very much. I hope that Pop in Q will go up to the next level with everyone who shared this special time.’
There was also an announcement about future events: ‘Youth! Dropping in! Graduation Cheer Screening’ will be held here, Shinjuku Wald 9, when this movie will play on Sunday January 22.
The audience seemed very surprised and delighted. There will be greeting on-stage by Asami Seto, Shiori Izawa, Tomoyo Kurosawa, Marina Tanoue, Kaori Ishihara, Satomi Arai and director Naoki Miyahara before this event.
