Dream Festival! Illusion Show Time in DMM VR Theater took place from Saturday 14 to Monday 16 July at the DMM VR Theater in Yokohama. The third run, which proved that the show was in great demand, was a hologram projection live concert utilizing CG technology that gave the audience a virtual reality experience. It feels as though the characters are right in front of you!
Furthermore, some lucky audience members got the chance to high-five Kanade Amamiya to celebrate his 15 July birthday! Read on as I tell you what happened during the Dream Festival! Illusion Show Time and the High Five Event in this article.
‘Illusion Show Time’ is a hologram projection live concert featuring the two popular units, DearDream and KUROFUNE, which appear in Dream Festival! R. The members of DearDream are Kanade Amamiya, Shin Oikawa, Junya Sasaki, Itsuki Katagiri, and Chizuru Sawamura, and the members of KUROFUNE are Keigo Kazama and Yuto Kuroishi. Audience members can experience realistic 3D images without wearing any devices and can immerse themselves in the world of Dream Festival! R at DMM VR Theatre, the world’s first hologram projection theater.
Once you have experienced this realistic 3D show, you’ll get addicted to it. The dancing and singing idols on stage looked so real and genuine.
There was a huge screen in the middle of the live concert venue. Clips from the anime, the Data Carddass, the in-game Dream Appeals from the game and close-up faces of the characters as they performed were shown to each side of the screen. The audience could enjoy not only the live concert but also the characters in various costumes which were changed for every song thanks to the hologram projections.
Each of the concerts even featured a variety corner with one of the following units: TRAFFIC SIGNAL (Kanade Amamiya, Shin Oikawa and Junya Sasaki), W-MaSKat (Itsuki Katagiri and Chizuru Sawamura) or KUROFUNE (Keigo Kazama and Yuto Kuroishi). I attended the final concert on the 16th and the variety corner was performed by TRAFFIC SIGNAL.
The fans at the venue were eagerly waiting for their idols to appear onstage. They let out a cheer when their favorite idols appeared. Everyone was on their feet from the beginning and the buzz from the excitement remained unchanged right up to the finale. Each character said his signature line and the fans responded. It was just like a conversation with a call & response!! The venue became a space where the fans and idols became united as one.
After the concert, it was time for the high five event. 50 fans had been selected by lottery for each show. These winners were more excited than usual as the event commemorated the birthday of Kanade Amamiya, who is the center of DearDream.
I went to a special booth with the lucky 50 fans to join the event. The booth was situated just beside the stage. I could hear the cheerful voice of Kanade but could not see his nor his fans’ silhouettes as they were hidden by partition walls. Just listening to their conversations made the other fans in the queue, including me, excited with anticipation. There was a note for participants on the partition walls. Please read it before your turn. You’d best know what you can and can’t do if you ever get to participate in the future!
A staff member also explained the dos and don’ts of the high five event to us in detail and listening to them made me calm down a bit. Some fans in the queue were practicing what they would say to Kanade, while others were checking their appearances with their compact mirrors. There was a full-length mirror in the booth for fans. I was impressed by how considerate the organizers were.
Finally, my turn had arrived!
‘Nice to meet you!’ It began with Kanade’s greeting. ‘I’m so happy today I might go crazy!’. I was totally entranced by the fact that he was talking to ME. ‘Three, two, one…’ He started the countdown to the high five. At the very moment of the high five, he exclaimed, ‘Hamburger!’ It was a joke to make me relax. The romantic moment was suddenly turned into a funny one. I really loved his personality! ‘Thank you very much for coming. You’re the best.’ He flashed his killer smile and my turn ended. I felt like I was dreaming.
The next time you can meet DearDream and KUROFUNE will be on 20 and 21 October 2018. The real-life members will be performing at a huge concert at the Budokan, which will be the culmination of the Dream Festival! R project. The tickets for the 21 October performance have sold out, but luckily an extra date was added for the 20. Check out the official website for more details. I also hope there will be another high-five event at some point!
