On 10 January 2018, the DearDream 1st Live Tour 2018 ‘Yume no Kodou’ kicked off in Tokyo at Tokyo Dome City Hall, followed by a performance on 13 January at Kitakyushu Soleil Hall in Fukuoka. DearDream is a group born from the 5D project Dream Festival! R which does not just blend the 2D and 3D, but aims to go beyond it. After their first live concert in Tokyo in May 2017, the group set off on their first ever Japanese nationwide tour.
The group is made of 5 real-life members who voice the 5 main 2D characters in the Dream Festival! R project. Their tour makes stops at Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, and Aichi before finishing up in Yokohama. This report will cover the first date of the tour, which took place at Tokyo Dome City Hall.
You can read more about Dream Festival! R and the members of DearDream in the following report of a performance that MANGA.TOKYO recently attended in Tokyo!
[AGF2017] Dream Festival R Miracle☆Greeting! 03 Live Report
In front of the venue on this very special day, a long line of people who had come to support DearDream, many of them young women, could be seen waiting to buy some of the tour merchandise. When the start time finally arrived, the stage went dark and the on-stage screen introduced us to the five 2D and 3D members of DearDream: Soma Ishihara (who plays Kanade Amamiya), Takuya Mizoguchi (who plays Shin Oikawa), Kentaro Tomita (who plays Junya Sasaki), Masaki Ota (who plays Itsuki Katagiri), and Kaoru Masaki (who plays Chizuru Sawamura). The venue erupted in applause.
Each member arrived wearing a special outfit and the event truly started when the group’s center Ishihara shouted ‘Tokyo!’. The 5 of them got straight into singing powerful numbers with wonderfully choreographed moves.
In the dance medley of unit songs, Mizoguchi and Tomita showed off their song ‘Symmetric love’. The audience went crazy over their cool performance and mature expressions.
After this came the unit W-MaSKat, made up of Masaki Ota and Kaoru Masaki, with their song ‘You are my RIVAL’. Their powerful singing harmonized wonderfully with the totally in-sync performance. The on-stage screen also showed us their 2D counterparts performing in the background, making this a true ‘5D performance’!
With the members changed into casual outfits, they sang a song that let them show their playful side to the audience. They made up some poses that represented Tokyo, and the audience struck them along with the group during the song. There truly was a feeling of unity at the venue at this point. They then moved on to a slow ballad with beautiful harmonies to which the audience listened intently. The setlist had a good mix of songs at both a fast and slow pace.
In the middle part of the performance, the boys put the pedal to the metal with intense dance performances and wild solo dances, and it almost felt as though there were sparks flying throughout the whole venue.
A video then played on the screen with the members pulling colored balls out of a box to decide on which members would be singing together. This means that all 5 dates on the tour will get to host a unique mix of ‘shuffle units’! This time, the audience squealed with delight at the unexpected outcomes.
Then as the performance entered its final half, everybody swung their tour towels in the air in time with one of their more up-tempo songs. With the familiar ‘Ikemasuka?’ (“Can we do it?”) / ‘Ikerussho!!’ (“We can totally do it!!”) call-and-response between the members and the audience, the boys went into full power and showed the 3000 ‘DearDreamers’ in the audience the charm of DearDream.
In the final part of the performance, the group passionately performed ‘Yume no Kodou’, after which the tour is named, and left the stage with huge grins on their faces.
The venue filled with the ‘Ikerussho!!’ calls for an encore, and the members all returned on stage wearing the tour t-shirts. Ishihara was thrilled with the audience response, saying ‘Everybody’s “Ikerussho!!” is just the best!’
After performing the poppy encore song, the venue was filled with a warm feeling and the 2.5-hour show came to an end. The 5 members of DearDream lined up in the center of the stage and took a deep bow while thanking the audience. They then held hands and shouted ‘Thank you for your amazing yells of support!’ with their mics turned off. Thus, the first leg of DearDream’s first-ever national tour came to an end.
Although the group’s center, Soma Ishihara, usually takes on the role of MC at live events, for this tour, each member of DearDream will be hosting one performance. The MC for the Tokyo performance was Takuya Mizoguchi, who said, ‘It has been about 3 years since DearDream was first formed. It’s so much fun to be with these guys every day, and I think a big part of that is because of the amazing support from you fans as well as the staff. I can feel that for sure right here today. We want to be able to reciprocate those feelings of gratitude at these live performances. Thank you so much.
After performing in Osaka and Aichi, DearDream will reach their final leg of the tour on 25 February at Pacifico Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture. Tickets for the Aichi and Kanagawa performances went on regular sale on 20 January.
The Osaka and Kanagawa performances will feature friendly rival unit KUROFUNE as guests.
We also have some special comments from each member of DearDream regarding their first performance on the Yume no Kodou Tour!
The curtain has finally risen on our 1st live tour.
It’s been a while since DearDream has performed on their own so I was pretty nervous, but it ended up being a really fun concert.
Today I was able to feel the passion and enthusiasm of the audience here in Tokyo and hope to increase that on our next stops!
Thank you so much to everybody who came to our Tokyo performance. And to everybody planning to come to our next shows, please look forward to it!
Thank you so much for coming! The cheers of support from you are always so encouraging. I always intend on releasing a whole bunch of energy so as not to lose to the others but still think it isn’t enough. But that’s exactly why I want to keep aiming higher! Our tour has finally gotten started. I am so grateful to the fans, and I will try to pay you all back by advancing even higher!
Our first performance is over!! The first day finally arrived! It was too much fun. It felt like just 5 seconds [laugh]
I always think this after performing, but our concert is really only complete with the smiles and passion of the audience! I was able to spend such an amazing time along with all of you! I would be over the moon if you enjoyed the set-list and performances put together by the group members and the staff!
We’ve managed to get off to a great start on this tour that will make stops at 5 cities across the country. I have gratefully received the passion of all the fans that came here to Tokyo and I hope to carry it with me to the other stops on the tour! Thank you so much for today!
