Cleanliness Boy! Aoyama-kun (Keppeki Danshi! Aoyama-kun) the upcoming summer anime held an event for the press on 19 June, where they announced additional cast members. The event was called Cleanliness Blue Members Announcement Journalist Event.
We already knew the cast members of three main characters: Ryotaro Okiayu as the OCD-like Aoyama-kun, Tomokazu Seki as fellow soccer club member Kaoru Zaizen, and Anzu Haruno as the cute girl Moka Goto. At the event, we also got to see the new cast members, and they are amazing! First up are the three stooges of the soccer club: Soichiro Hoshi as Kazuma Sakai, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Jin Tsukamoto, and Hiroyuki Yoshino as Taichi Yoshioka. Playing the soccer club captain Gaku Ishikawa will be Noriaki Sugiyama, and the narcissistic Hikaru Tada will be voiced by Daisuke Kishio. The cast is full of veteran voice actors!
To support the cast of the anime, the Japanese national soccer team also took to the stage! Well… not really! 4 comedians who are famous in Japan for their impressions of the national team members joined the stage. They were Ari Kota’s Ari (who impersonates the manager of the Japan team, Vahid Halilhodžić), Jun’chi Davidson (who impersonates Keisuke Honda), Amore Hashimoto (who impersonates Yuto Nagatomo) and Chiaki Asano (who impersonates Kagawa Shinji). If you squint, they look like a real soccer team!
As representatives of Japan, the male cast members all wore suits. The only woman of the group, Anzu Haruno, wore a refreshing dress.
In response to the question, ‘In relation to Cleanliness Boy! Aoyama-kun, who is the cleanliest person?’, Seki immediately raised his hand and explained that he doesn’t like to share drinks nor does he like to eat onigiri that other people have touched. Okiayu then mentioned that he is indifferent about it and they joked that they should have been cast for each other’s roles. Hoshi spoke of his bothersome cleanliness habits saying that he doesn’t mind if it’s untidy but he hates when it’s dirty.
When asked about each of their characters, Seki, who plays the rich boy Zaizen, said he is good at playing rich boys. In the voice of a very famous rich-kid character that he plays in a certain children’s anime, he made a witty remark and got a lot of laughs. Sakaguchi, on the other hand, compared his character Tsukamoto with a certain bespectacled, straight-man character he has been voicing for a long time. He said that this time, although Tsukamoto wears glasses, he doesn’t make any quips and therefore he is relaxed and acting freely.
Answering a question about the anime’s highlights, Haruno said that she likes the opening and ending. In response to this, Okiayu and Seki quickly followed up, ‘The actual show is interesting too!’ They said that since it is a soccer anime, you can see many amazing soccer scenes but it will also focus on the comedy within the school setting. It is a balanced work that anyone can enjoy. Okiayu said, ‘It’s rare recently but the cast members are close in age, so it’s a calm workplace.’
After the talk segment, there were many happy announcements. First was the new PV. It was decided that it would be aired not only on TV, but on Nico Nico Douga as well. The most exciting announcement was about the music. The ending song is a cover of ‘Taiyou ga Kureta Kisetsu’ and is sung by the members of Fujimi High School soccer club. Okiayu, Seki, Hoshi, Sakaguchi, and Yoshino sing the youthful and passionate song. Since it is a familiar song, the recording finished quickly. The ending animation is also very interesting, so please look forward to it! Also, it was announced that a radio show featuring Okiayu will go on air.
After the event, Okiayu did the greetings as the representative of the cast. He was careful to let everyone know that the eighth and ninth volumes of the manga have just gone on sale, so he wants fans to properly check the manga and then watch the anime.
The first episode was screened after the event. The moving Aoyama-kun was spectacularly sparkling. He is a very polished boy (His silky hair is especially good). Also, as the cast said in their comments, the chibi versions of the characters will definitely steal your attention. Aoyama-kun and company have powered up and wait for you!
Don’t forget that Aoyama-kun is part of our episodic anime reviews for Summer 2017. The first episode airs in 4 July.
