Fall 2017 Anime: Official Twitter Hashtags & Pages
The MANGA.TOKYO staff had its share of summer. Now, all we wish is for the hot and humid weather to go away and give its place to the red and cool autumn.
A light brown cloud obstructs the sunlight and a gloomy atmosphere envelops the town. Illusions of the Stand-using serial murderer Kira Yoshikage appear and disappear. In such a town, many young people were gathered in a corner. With an expression colored by expectation, they praise the ‘golden spirit’…
On Sunday 13 August 2017, the event Bizarre Summer 2017 in S City Morioh Town took place at Tokyo Electron Hall Miyagi (Aoba, Sendai) with the afternoon session beginning at 15:00. The venue, which was packed to the brim with attendees, was enveloped with enthusiasm from before the event began.
The ‘Opening’ began amidst the excitement. In response to the call by MC Hisanori Yoshida, an announcer from Nippon Broadcasting System, the voice of Josuke Higashikata, Yuki Ono, Takahiro Sakurai (Rohan Kishibe), and Daisuke Ono (Jotaro Kujo) took to the stage while saying popular lines and striking poses. Whenever a certain popular line was said, the audience erupted into applause. They also showcased the content of the conversations they had backstage. They spoke about Sendai delicacies such as ox tongue and mashed green soybeans and were cheered on by the local fans.
The first corner was ‘Talk about Jojo Festival!’ It was an introduction to the Hirohiko Araki Original Picture Exhibition, JoJo Exhibition in S-city, Morioh Town 2017 which was held at the Sendai Mediatheque (Aoba, Sendai) on Saturday 12 August. Since Yuki Ono has visited the venue before, his impressions were the focus of the corner. As he spoke, manuscrips drawn at the time of the manga’s serialization were displayed and voices saying, ‘I saw that!’, ‘I want to go!’, could be heard from the audience.
The next corner was ‘Know Yearning with Jojo Festival!’ There were questions prepared to experience just how much the fans and the voice actors felt Jojo Loss in the last 6 months. ‘Surprising! When I see Wataru Takagi on set, he only looks like Okuyasu!’ This first question cause the audience to erupt into laughter. After a few minutes this laughter turned into cheers because the voice of Okuyasu Nijimura, Wataru Takagi, made a surprise appearance. ‘Surprising! When you hear Italian food, in any case, Tonio comes to mind!’, ‘Surprising! When you go to the Jump store, you end up buying Jojo goods’ A light and easy conversation between Yuki Ono and the other took place in response to these questions. At the end of the corner, part of the OVA included in the TV anime’s Blu-ray and DVD box sets, ‘Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Millionaire Village’, was released.
With the undying excitement over ‘Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: Millionaire Village’, the event moved into the ‘Shout Your Jojo Love!’ corner. While several of the audience members shouted a line from the anime, another group of the audience shouted a different line and the voice actors will see if they can hear what lines they are saying. It was a fierce fight between Yuki Ono, Takashiro Sakurai, Daisuke Ono, and Wataru Takagi.
Next up was the ‘live corner’. When Karen Aoki and Daisuke Hasegawa appeared dressed in black costumes with neon green lines, the audience responded with a standing ovation. The duo performed Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures Diamond is Unbreakable’s opening song ‘Great Days’ followed by ‘Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town’. The venue was slit up with green, red, white and blue glow sticks and everyone was united as they enjoyed the concert.
The cheering was silenced during the ‘Live Recording’ corner. When Yuki Ono and Daisuke Ono re-enacted a scene from Episode 16 of the anime, ‘Let’s go Hunting!’, the realistic acting cause the audience to be so silent that you could hear a pin drop. Also, Yuki Ono and Takahiro Sakurai re-enacted Jojo and Rohan’s Chinchirorin battle from Episodes 27 and 28 of the anime. Although it was a comical scene, the acting was so real that the audience listened seriously.
Finally, it was time for the ‘Ending’. The six gusts spoke about their feelings towards Jojo. Takagi said, ‘Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter 1 was released on 4 August. Please enjoy a Jojo different to the anime.’ Yuki Ono commented, ‘I am glad to have had another anime event. Please enjoy the exhibition and the live action movie. Morioh is a great town.’
