March 26th & 27th “AnimeJapan 2016” Ponycan Booth Comprehensive Stage Event Report is Finally Here!
On Saturday March 26th and Sunday March 27th 2016, one of the world’s largest anime conventions of the nation “AnimeJapan 2016″ took place at Tokyo Big Sight. A series of talk shows were presented on the stage of Ponycan booth this year, titled “Ponycan Presents: Let’s Talk about OO” (OO here represents randomly selected topics written on an oversize dice).
On March 26th (Sat), a total of seven prepared events were offered. Here is the event line-up.
STAGE 1 “迷家-マヨイガ- (Mayoiga)”
STAGE 2 “無彩限のファントム・ワールド (Myriad Colors Phantom World)”
STAGE 3 “桜Trick (Sakura Trick)”
STAGE 4 “響け！ユーフォニアム (Sound!Euphonium)”

A total of four different presenters run the show. 花守ゆみり (Yumiri Hanamori) and 高橋朋伽 (Tomoka Takahashi) emceed STAGE 1 through 3, followed by 新田ひより (Nitta Hiyori) and 近藤玲奈 (Reina Kondo), who took over STAGE 4 through 7.
STAGE 1 featured a brand-new anime launching this April, titled “迷家-マヨイガ- (Mayoiga: The Lost Village)” The voice talents 酒井広大 (Koudai Sakai), who performs 光宗 (Mitsumune), and 相坂優歌 (Yuuka Aisaka), who performs 真咲 (Masaki), came up onto the stage.
Sakai looked nervous as he rolled the dice and picked the topic “First Experience.” He talked about his very first salon experience in which he decided to have his hair permanently curled, and how easy the hair styling became since then. He went on talking about how this brand-new TV series compasses whopping 31 characters, and each of them has distinctive characteristics and background. Aisaka, who performs one of the leading characters, informed the audience that her character Masaki faces a shocking event in the first Episode. The second version of promotional video was announced, along with the opening song “幻想ドライブ (Gensou Drive)” by 和島あみ (Ami Wajima), as well as the ending song “結露 (Ketsuro)” by片平里菜 (Hina Katahira). The other announcement included the release of the “TV anime Mayoiga: the Starter Book – Nanakimura Tour Guide -” on Friday April 15th.
STAGE 2 featured a TV anime series, Myriad Colors Phantom World. The voice talent 上坂すみれ (Sumire Uesaka), performing the voice of Mai Kawakami, appeared on stage and talked about her “Shocking Story.” She was at a book store looking for a particular printed episode of “Sangokushi” (Records of the Three Kingdoms) but she couldn’t find one. As a solution, she went on to buy all episodes in all three formats – the printed version, the bunko version, and e-book version. In regards to the Myriad Colors Phantom World, she talked about her resolution to perform in the final episode in the coming week. She revealed how she used to feel tense about performing Mai’s role, as she didn’t have previous experience of acting grown-up girl.
April 6th marks the launch of the collector version of Blu-Ray & DVD volume 1, which includes a special reticular coated hard case. When tilted, the special coated layer reveals different outfits of Mai illustrated on the package. The special edition also comes with a preorder request ticket of the special event scheduled at Maihama Amphitheater on Sunday, July 10th.
STAGE 3 welcomed 五十嵐裕美 (Hiromi Igarashi) who performed 南しずく (Shizuku Minami), and 渕上舞 (Mai Fuchigami) who performed 池野楓 (Kaede Ikeno) on the TV anime series 桜 Trick (“Sakura Trick”). The popular TV show’s entire episode is now available on two disks of Blu-Ray, called “Sakura Trick Compact Collection Blu-Ray.” On the stage, the promotional video was played, and the guest speakers moved onto the dice rolling talk game. Igarashi rolled the dice which provided the topic “Favorite Person.” She talked about her birthday karaoke party and a gift, a song presented by 相坂優歌 (Yuka Aisaka) who is the voice of 野田コトネ (Kotone Noda).
The show production was completed two years ago, however, the show’s popularity continues to generate media opportunities, while keeping the voice actors busy and happy. Igarashi and Aisaka announced that they will host “Shizukus’s After Birthday Event” scheduled on April 16th, and that they will draw a name to invite a fan who had purchased the Sakura Trick Compact Collection through Canime.jp.
From the STAGE 4, the emcee duo changed to Arata and Kondo, who turned the spotlight on “劇場版 響け！ユーフォニアム (Movie version of Sound! Euphonium). Voice talents like 黒沢ともよ (Tomoyo Kurosawa) who performs 黄前久美子 (Kumiko Oumae) and 安済知佳 (Chika Anzai) who performs 高坂麗奈 (Rena Kousaka) came onto the stage. Kurosawa shared her “Delicious Story” in which she enjoyed an Atami trip and a giant lobster dinner with her work-friend 寿美菜子 (Minako Kotobuki) who performs 田中あすか (Asuka Tanaka) in the show. On the other hand, Anzai talked about “Story about Things that Beat Me.” Her story was about the knee and tail bone injury she had suffered, something that had literally physically beaten her up.
The movie version of “Sound! Euphonium: Welcome to Kita Uji High School Brass Band Club” will launch on April 23rd (Sat). It’s a compilation of the entire episodes. Additionally the production staff edited the post recording. The high quality sound is ideal for the movie theater experience. Advanced tickets with a “Puni Tuba Kun” bonus will become available from April 2nd (Sat) at local theaters.
STAGE 5 featured “Kuromukuro,” a brand-new anime coming to the TV screen in April. Three guest speakers appeared on the stage: 阿座上洋平 (Yohei Azagami) who performs 青馬剣之介時 (Kennosuke Tokisada Ouma), MAO who performs 白羽由希奈 (Yukina Shirahane), and 上田麗奈 (Reina Ueda) who performs Sophie Noelle. Ueda rolled a dice and picked a topic “Story of us” and she shared an adorable story that Ueda and MAO can’t stop having fun poking each other during the recording sessions.
The third and the latest promotional video was played on the stage. The three guest speakers talked about Azagami’s role, Ouma, the samurai. The unique character-setting made Azagami stand out from the other characters. Each guest talked about their roles.
The stage talk included the opening song “Desutopia” by GLAY and the ending theme “Real-istic” by MICHI as topic, as well as the NikoNiko monthly live broadcast “Kuromukuro Oshitemairu!” The third volume will be aired on Thursday the April 7th, 11:30 p.m.
STAGE 6 featured Suzuko Mimori, who revealed her “Unbelievable Story” that her grandmother is a look-alike of Queen Elizabeth, thus her grandmother is called “Queen Elizabeth of Japan” by her neighbors.
Her sixth single “Xenotopia” is scheduled to release on May 25th (Wed) and chosen for the ending theme song of the TV anime 聖戦ケルベロス 竜刻のファタリテ (Holy War Cerberus Fatalite of Dragon Time). She talked about how she coined the word Xenotopia, in search of a concept of utopia in another world, and about how she endured the chilly weather while she filmed the music video. Her CD single includes a preorder request ticket for “Mimorin Birthday Festival 2016.” Starting in July, her first nation-wide live tour “Mimori Suzuko Live Tour 2016: Grand Revue” will hit the road, and the venue includes Nihon Budokan.
STAGE 7 welcomed 下野紘 (Hiro Shimono). He has just released his first single “リアル (Real).” During the talking session, he revealed his “Trivial Story” in which he talked about his lunch. He purchased a boxed lunch of huge fried chickens. It turned out the most part of the fried chickens was dough, leaving the meat volume substantially less than he had expected. After this hugely disappointing experience, he made it a habit to separate the meat and dough, whenever he consumed fried chicken. When he was asked about his decision to lead an artistic life style, he answered that he chose his path because he wanted to give all in when he commits to something, and, because he wanted to wear leather jackets at work.
Regarding his music CD, he is going to host Hiro Shimono’s Birthday Live Event on April 23rd and 24th in Tokyo and Osaka. The purchase of his single “REAL” comes with a preorder request ticket. The request needs to be made by 11:59 p.m. on March 27th Japan time.
He is confirmed to appear on “BREAK OUT NATSU MATSURI”, a part of the event run by TV Asahi network nation-wide program BREAK OUT.

STAGE 1 featured “Re:ステージ！” and top six voice talents: 牧野天音 (Amane Makino) performing式宮舞菜, 鬼頭明里(Akari Kito) performing 月坂紗由役, 田澤茉純 (Masumi Tazawa) performing 市杵島瑞葉, 立花芽恵夢 (Meemu Tachibana) performing 柊かえ, 岩橋由佳 (Yuka Iwahashi) performing本城香澄, and 空見ゆき (Yuki Sorami) performing 長谷川みい .
During the story time, as a “Trivial Story” a story about a nose noise being mistaken as a bird song was shared. In the “Not Very Proud Story” Makino and Kito shared an episode where they have practiced ballet dance but their experience didn’t help their body to become stretchy like dancers.
The anime “Re: Stage!” turned out to be the story of six junior high schoolers who had once dreamt about being J-pop idols but eventually gave up. They form a singing unit KiRaRe and run up a stardom.
On April 10th, Sunday, a NikoNiko live broadcast “Re: Stage! Niko Nama no Honban” will air. People can apply for the drawing by using the serial number enclosed in the first single “Startin’ My Re: STAGE!!” It was announced that the brand new song will be performed at the live broadcast event.
STAGE 2 featured 内田真礼 (Maaya Uchida) who sings the opening theme song of the TV anime “聖戦ケルベロス 竜刻のファタリテ (Holy War Cerberus Fatalite of Dragon Time).” Her fourth single “Resonant Heart” will be released on May 11th (Wed). Uchida joined the talk session “Unforgettable Story” and reviewed some of the highlights from her first live stage experience. She mentioned that Resonant Heart is linked to the TV anime’s leading characters and has an expansive concept. She also talked about how she chose this song among many different songs, and how she was surprised at the flamboyant ending despite her initial expectation.
The audience had a chance to see, for the first time, a teaser video from Uchida’s first solo live performance “Hello, 1st, Contact!” recorded on Blu-Ray DVD, which is scheduled to be released on July 20th (Wed). Uchida talked about how she enjoyed the live performance, despite the series of new experiences like dancing, the quick dress change and the sessions with the live band.
STAGE 3 puts spotlight on the TV anime “ゆるゆり (Yuru Yuri).” 三上枝織 (Shiori Mikami) performing 赤座あかり and 大坪由佳 (Yuka Otsubo) performing 歳納京子 came up onto the stage. Mikami demonstrated her real luck as she drew winning tickets consecutively three times. As a prize, she presented her signatures to lucky three of the audience.
During the talk session, “Story of Things that Freak Me Out,” Otsubo confessed that she freaks out every time she runs into 三森すずこ (Suzuko Mitsumori) who performs 古谷向日葵, because she is too adorable. In the “First Experience” story, she looked back at her first live performance video and mentioned how naïve she used to be. She replicated her performance on the stage.
The guest speakers announced that they will pick invitees to Mikami’s “Owatashikai” on May 1st (Sun), among those who reserved through Canime.jp a purchase of the fifth volume of Yuru Yuri San Hai!” Blue-ray & DVD, which will launch on April 20th (Wed).
They also announced that “Yuri Yura Rarara Yuru Yuri Hososhitsu Radio CD 8 Jikanme” is selling well, and that they are planning a special promotional event on May 15th (Sun).
STAGE 4 featured “SHOW BY ROCK!!” and the show’s voice 稲川英里 (Eri Inagawa) performing シアン (Cyan) was invited onto the stage. She passionately talked about her “Delicious Story” in which she was impressed with the quality of a potato dish she had in Guam. She also shared her gun range experience in the “First Experience” talk.
A mini sequel of the show titled “SHOW BY ROCK!! Short!!” will start in July. The show’s re-run starts in April. The sequel production hasn’t started yet, however, the story board is already looking outstanding, she said.
A number of announcements were made on the stage; the five-month short anime series starting on April 20th (Wed), a release of single as a commemoration of the series’ sequel production, and “Sanrio Character Grand Prize” with five bands entries, “SHOW BY ROCK!! In NAMJATOWN NAMJA FES!!2016,” and an entry to “Animelo Summer Live – 刻 TOKI-“which made Inagawa so happy that she punched in the air with joy.
STAGE 5 featured the TV anime Dagashikashi, along with the voice talents 竹達彩奈 (Ayana Taketatsu) performing 枝垂ほたる and 沼倉愛美 (Manami Numakura) performing 遠藤サヤ (Saya Endo). Three people on the stage played a typical game to test their luck by eating dagashi in search of a prize inside the food or package. Taketatsu then shared her “Trivial Story” that she loved the belt-conveyor sushi she had previous night, which was delicious and cheap.
In regards to the anime show, two voice talents spoke about a variety of dagashi that appear on each episode, and about Hotaru being not lucky at all but having a deep love for dagashi. The show will reach its last broadcast soon.
The anime artist Kotoyama designed special Dagashi package style sleeves for the first volume of the Dagashikashi Blu-ray & DVD. The special package is for the first run only. The second volume sale date is announced to be April 20th (Wed). Also on May 28th (Sat), a Dagashikashi special event named “オッティモフェスタ (Ottimofiesta)” will take place. The priority purchase coupon for the afternoon session is included in the Blu-ray & DVD volume 1. The coupon for the evening session is in volume 2. At the end, two voice actors commented that they had genuinely enjoyed working with the Dagashikashi anime adoption project.
STAGE 6 featured the TV anime “美男高校地球防衛部LOVE! LOVE!” (Handsome Boys High School Global Defense Unit LOVE! LOVE!). The second season of this show is confirmed. 山本和臣 (Kazutomi Yamamoto) performing 箱根有基 and 白井悠介 (Yusuke Shiroi) performing 鳴子硫黄 joined.
On the stage, Shirai struck a cool pose representing a proud defense unit member. In the succeeding talk game, Shirai presented his “Story of a Thoroughly Sync with an Anime Character.” He started fiddling with his smart phone, then moved onto a slap talk with Yamamoto, both playing their characters live on the stage. Then, in the “Story of Us” he revealed his interpersonal approach and careful assessment of emotional distance between himself and his new coworkers.
A series of announcements were made on stage. The show’s series’ BD&DVD recordings are on sale. The complete six volumes come with a special video of the five Defense Unit members’ trip to Hakone and Kinugawa. The light novel version titled “美男高校地球防衛部LOVE! LOVE! II” (Handsome Boys High School Global Defense Unit LOVE! LOVE! II) is scheduled to launch on May 3rd (Tue). A full-color special design bath towel is made-to-order and can be reserved through Canime.jp. The five Defense Unit members will make appearance on NikoNama “バトルナマァーズ (Battle Namarz)” in April.
The two actors appealed to the audience to keep their eyes out for the second season that will start in near future.
STAGE 7 put spotlight on the TV anime “ダイヤのA (Ace of Diamond).” Voice actors like 逢坂良太 (Ryota Osaka) performing 沢村栄純 and 櫻井孝宏 (Takahiro Sakurai) performing 御幸一也 joined the stage. While the audience expected that the two will come up on stage after their names were introduced, however,
花江夏樹 (Natsuki Hanae) performing 小湊春市 as well as 浪川大輔 (Daisuke Namikawa) performing 滝川・クリス・優 made a surprise appearance.
In the talk show, Sakurai talked about his “First Experience” in which he started wearing fashion glasses only because his talent agency instructed him to do so right after he relocated to Tokyo. Hanae shared an episode when she first met with Namkawa in voice sample recording session.
The crew made an announcement about a collaborative event between the Ace of Diamond and Tokyo Yakulto Swallows baseball team scheduled on June 19th (Tue), at the sacred baseball mecca, Jingu Stadium. Other announcements include the release of OxT COMPLETE SONGS “ACE OF DIAMOND”’s commemorative live performance and talk event, plus, the deadline for the priority application is now set to March 31 (Thu).
Sine the beginning of the first day of broadcasting, two years and a half have past. The show’s last episode will air tomorrow. The four voice actors mentioned that they don’t want the project to be over, and they feel very emotional about the last round, but at the same time, they want everyone to enjoy the grand finale. In the end, all the performers joined in the rallying cry to wrap up the event.
