Summer 2019 Anime: Official Twitter Hashtags & Pages
Summer is near, my dear friends, and our tablets and phones will need some extra space for all the amazing anime that are coming our way.
A Certain Magical and Scientific Expo took place at Seibu Shibuya Movida from 3 to 25 November 2018.
The A Certain (To Aru) series originates from the 2004 light novel A Certain Magical Index. It was followed by two TV anime seasons of the same name and A Certain Magical Index: The Movie – The Miracle of Endymion. The TV anime’s third season, A Certain Magical Index III, is currently airing. The popularity of the series continues to grow, and spin-offs such as A Certain Scientific Railgun and A Certain Scientific Accelerator have also been published. The series has also expanded into other media, and will take a new turn in 2019.
As the word ‘Expo’ suggests, the fair showcased the height of the A Certain series. Visitors could see everything about the series at the venue! There was an exhibition showing what has happened in the anime, manga, and light novel series so far, and also looking at the future developments. Fans could look at the displays of the history of the series’ merchandise and there were even some older items on sale in a limited number. New merchandise was also sold at the venue. Furthermore, special events were held every weekend, which featured appearances from voice actors and musicians who took part in the series.
A sneak preview took place a day before the opening day and I was there on behalf of MT. Unfortunately, I can’t show it visually because we weren’t allowed to take photos at the time.
No sooner had I got out from the escalator and Mikoto, Toma, and Index on the visual board appeared right before my eyes. I bet every fan would be excited at this point. I went in the gate and stepped into the world of the world of A Certain series.
The gate was ‘one-way traffic’ (The original Japanese title of A Certain Scientific Accelerator is Toaru Kagaku no Ippoutsuukou which literally means ‘A Certain Scientific One-way Traffic’) and countless numbers of great scenes from A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun were displayed along it. I’m sure you would want to examine each of them one by one but I recommend not doing so unless you don’t mind blocking the view of the other visitors due to the sheer number of pictures. I just walked through the gate while immersing myself in memories of the series.
After the gate, life-sized character cut-outs welcomed me. Carefully chosen items were on display at the venue. Before being wrapped up in reading all character design works, I went to the Key Animation Exhibition Area to check out my favorite characters. There were generous numbers of key animations displayed in the area. Visitors were delighted to watch them while remembering their favorite scenes. After threading through the monochrome key animation area, I arrived in an area full of colors! There were so many front cover illustrations lining every wall. Watching the covers and reproductions of the illustrations surely made visitors want to read the novels all over again.
There was a monitor at the right-hand side of the event area where talk shows took place. Figures and signed scripts of the anime series were displayed on the left.
At last, I arrived at the merch shop. As I mentioned before, I couldn’t take photos because it was still in preparation. However, I witnessed an Index-inspired hoodie and Mikoto-inspired MA-1 which visitors could pre-order at the venue. There were many other fashion items with A Certain series’ motifs. Visitors who spent more than 3000 yen in the shop received an original shopper bag exclusive to the venue. The design of the bag changed every week to tempt visitors to visit multiple times. Additionally, visitors received one of four postcards with a different weekly design. The staff members at the venue advised me to check the details on the official website before the visit.
