The manga The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai) by Nakaba Suzuki has finally gotten an anime movie after a two-series anime adaptation, a TV special, and more! Fans have been waiting for this action-packed theatrical release titled The Seven Deadly Sins: Prisoners of the Sky, which has a story by Suzuki himself! We were able to see the movie before its official release, and here is our sneak peak review!
The story takes place in a time when humans and non-humans alike lived in the same society. The Kingdom of Liones was almost annihilated thanks to the evildoings of the Demon Clan, but were saved thanks to the efforts of the Kingdom’s third Princess, Elizabeth, and a band of strong yet terrible knights known as the Seven Deadly Sins. With peace returning to the Kingdom, preparations are underway to celebrate the King’s birthday.
Dishes using lots of rare ingredients are being prepared at The Boar’s Hut, which is being run by the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, Meliodas. In search of an ingredient called the sky fish, Meliodas and talking pig Hawk end up lost above the clouds and in front of the Sky Palace. Living in the Sky Castle are a race of winged people, descended from the Goddess Clan. They protect the land which holds an evil which was sealed 3,000 years ago.
However, a group of demons who call themselves The Six Black Knights attack the Sky People with the aim of releasing the sealed evil. In order to protect the seal, a winged boy named Sorada believes that they need to find the legendary ‘Oshiro’ from whom they borrowed power 3 millennia ago to seal the evil. As Sorada descends in order to get help, he ends up meeting the other 6 members of the Seven Deadly Sins. Sorada looks very similar to Meliodas, but after some confusion, he ends up guiding the group to the Sky Palace.
The Six Black Knights and the Seven Deadly Sins end up clashing! It turns out that Berylion, the leader of the Six Black Knights, and Meliodas have a connection via the Ten Commandments. The battle with Berylion, whose power is the equivalent of 4 of the Ten Commandments, comes very suddenly and is very intense. However, Meliodas has enough power to start landing what seems to be a crushing defeat against Berylion.
Or so we thought… Meliodas ends up defeated! Just what kind of power are we seeing here?
You may be surprised by who ends up protecting the Sky Castle. There is some shocking new information released in this movie, which has been penned by the original author himself. Fans can look forward to aν ending that might surprise them!
