※ SPOILER WARNING! This article contains spoilers for the Baka and Test anime and light novel regarding Akihisa’s relationships
It has been nearly six years since the climax of the anime adaptation of Baka and Test: Summon the Beast (Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu). Although the light novel of the series has concluded about a year ago, the anime’s sudden end left a lot of unanswered questions. One of those questions is: Who did Akihisa choose as his girlfriend at the end of the series? Although the anime never gave a clear answer, please don’t be dismayed.
The light novel actually covered much of the later parts of Baka to Test’s storyline and ended on a great note without a cliffhanger. So, that just leaves the task at hand. Who exactly did Akihisa choose? Was it Himeji or Minami? Was it Hideyoshi?!

Was it Minami?
Throughout the Baka to Test series, Minami and Akihisa had a very complex relationship. On one hand, Minami wasn’t very kind to Akihisa. On the other hand, she prepared box lunches for him and even kissed him over a blatant misunderstanding. Akihisa never commented on whether he liked Minami, but he said that she was a charming girl whom he could be himself with. This is certainly a puzzling indication.
However, in the twelfth volume of Baka to Test (The Sixteenth Question), Minami actually confessed her feelings to Akihisa. His reaction was different than most people expected. Minami confessed her feelings for Akihisa with a kiss and her genuine words. Even though Akihisa admitted that he had feelings for Himeji, he openly stated that Minami’s feelings aren’t just something that he can ignore.
You see, this is the most hurtful aspect of harem anime series. One end of a love triangle always gets hurt. Although I never expected Akihisa to choose Minami, I never expected her to be rejected either. I know Akihisa doesn’t have the guts to tell her that he doesn’t want to be with her. So, in this case, Akihisa is in a very precarious predicament. After all, Minami did become more outspoken with her feelings for Akihisa and started to become more of a caring friend to him. It truly sucks that she had to get an answer like that. In any case, that Himeji also confessed her feelings for Akihisa is a convincing fashion as well.

Was it Himeji?
Himeji and Akihisa shared a close bond throughout the Baka to Test series. Himeji was determined to do her best for Akihisa and he wanted the same for her. However, she struggled when she conveyed her feelings to Akihisa. The time soon came after Himeji revealed to Akihisa that she would have to go overseas in her battle against Takashiro, Akihisa’s rival.
From the beginning of the anime series, Himeji always struggled to express her feelings to Akihisa. Granted, Akihisa is a bonafide idiot, and giving him any sort of hint would have just floated right above his head like a bird. Still, Himeji had plenty of chances to tell Akihisa that she loved him. However, one of the conflicts in the series was Himeji’s stay in Fumizuki Academy. Being an exceptional student, Himeji’s parents often worried if the school was the best for her, especially with Class F’s terrible learning conditions. Akihisa tried to remedy this by winning the Summoner Test War against Class A, but he failed twice.
As such, Himeji remained in Class F, although she was fine with it. As the series went on, Himeji’s parents grew more concerned and contemplated sending her to the United States. Not wanting to worry Akihisa, Himeji never told him. At last, during the struggle, Himeji is in a battle with Takashiro. Stalling time so Yuuji and Akihisa can escape, she sacrifices herself in the battle.
Himeji confesses her love to Akihisa just as she is about to be defeated by Takashiro. Stunned, Akihisa realizes the decision he must make with everything on the line.

After Himeji’s defeat, Class F’s back is against the wall in the Summoner Test War against Takashiro, Akihisa’s rival for the love of Himeji. Takashiro and Akihisa are pretty similar. Both are dim-witted and misplace the simplest information. However, Takashiro is somewhat of a genius, able to compete with the likes of Shouko and Himeji easily. Despite Himeji’s sacrifice, Akihisa takes Takashiro on without his usual underhanded antics. He then makes the confession of the century.
Akihisa turns on a microphone and confesses his love for Himeji to the entire student body, which angers Takashiro and stuns everyone else. After this bold proclamation, Akihisa confronts Takashiro and challenges the ‘virgin’ to battle, which happens to be the final battle of the Summoner Test War and a duel for Himeji’s affection. With no chance of winning, Yuuji gives Akihisa some pep talk and everyone else just waits for the outcome.
Well, there you have it. Akihisa confessed his love for Himeji before his final battle with Takashiro. Nonetheless, this isn’t the end of the trip. Himeji still hasn’t given him an answer yet, and there still isn’t that Baka to Test style ending anywhere in sight. So, keep reading.
I count myself as an idiot so I'm joining in… haha 😂

After Akihisa’s bold proclamation, he then proceeds to defeat Takashiro in the Summoner Test War, solidifying Class F as the supreme class. After a series of events, Akihisa meets up with Himeji and they embrace. Akihisa confirms that he loves Himeji and always wanted to see her happy. We don’t get to see a kiss, but I guess this will suffice. Oh, who am I kidding? For all of the trouble and waiting we all had to do just to see the ending, we could have gotten one lousy kiss from the two. Geez.
In the end, Akihisa chose Himeji as his love interest and Minami remained cool with his decision. The two seem destined to make it official, but the ultimate Baka and Test ending happened to give us all a laugh during the series finale. Essentially, after all the damage and strife the Summoner Test War caused, Principal Kaoru banned intimate relationships between students at the academy. Now, this served as the typical Baka to Test ending where things always goes opposite according to plan.
I don’t know what relationships had to do with anything, so this was kind of dumb. Though, on an unrelated note, Yuuji and Shouko got together after Yuuji confessed. I guess this made up for the principal’s rash decisions. Well, she doesn’t like Akihisa anyway, and it’s not like Akihisa and Himeji just can’t date after school. Nonetheless, Akihisa made his choice and both of his love interests couldn’t have been any happier.
