Nintendo’s game console ‘NES Classic Edition (hereafter NES Mini)’ went on sale last November.
There was a continuous stock shortage and Nintendo announced that they would halt production of the NES Mini…! However, the word ‘temporarily’ was included in the press release.
Will the SNES Mini be announced!? What about the compilation titles?
For argument’s sake, let’s say that the information is true. Then the real question is: What games will the console have? Our friends at KAI-YOU, in collaboration with the game-loving writer Daisuke Sugiyama（@doku_sho) have put together a list of predicted titles!

Sugiyama believes that these titles are the strongest contenders. From the standard Super Mario series to fighting games and shooting, you can see that the majority is made up of RPGs. SNES was one of the reasons that the Japanese RPGs are so popular in the west.
Now then, Mr. Sugiyama, what was the basis for your selection?
Daisuke Sugiyama: On the Nintendo game consoles Wii, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U, there is a service called Virtual Console through which you can play software from older game consoles. This time, all the titles I chose are popular games that are currently being distributed through the virtual console.
In fact, all the games offered on the NES Mini are offered via virtual console. Simulating a game is a lot of hard work, and they also have to close resale deals for software from other companies, so I think it is fair to assume that they will chose games from the easy-to-organize virtual console games.
If I were to choose from non-virtual console games, I would say Dragon Quest V and Yoshi’s Island. These two works have a mobile hardware version so the contents are probably not too heavy.
The SNES Mini is predicted to be a hit even though it still hasn’t been announced. The writer of this article would like to play games developed by Quintet such as Illusion of Gaia (Illusion of Time/Gaia Gensouki) or Robotrek (Slapstick). (They most definitely won’t be included though…)
Which SNES game do you want to see in the mini console?
