Winter 2020 Anime: Official Info, Airdates & Trailers
Keep warm this winter season with the latest anime info at MANGA.TOKYO!
I will save you the trouble of going through a lengthy introduction. If you are here, then that means you already know pretty well what you are looking for. High School DxD is one of the first anime that comes to mind when it comes to the usual blend of harem/romance/ecchi/fanservice themes that brings to the mix action-packed sequences. The anime is so popular that it got a second season, High School DxD New, in Summer 2013, followed by the third season, High School DxD BorN, in Spring 2015. A fourth season, High School DxD Hero, will air in Spring 2018.
What you want now is more series with the same themes: a male protagonist surrounded by beautiful girls who fight against a common enemy.
MANGA.TOKYO is here with 10 anime that are in many ways similar to High School DxD. We don’t think about it too hard when it comes to similarities and differences. These are titles we think you’ll enjoy if you liked High School DxD!
Summer 2012

Not all shinigami are the same and not all teenage boys have the luck to meet one as unique as Lisara Restole. Ryosuke Kaga is fooled by Lisara’s hot appearance and agrees to let the Goddess of Death steal some of his essence to remain in this world. Well, let’s just say that the ‘essence’ that Lisara stole was not Ryosuke’s life… in a sense. The divine hottie feeds on something that is much more important to young guys: their libido and lewdness. THE HORROR. Now, his only chance to recover what he lost is to follow Risara in her quest.
Very similar to High School DxD, both titles feature a normal guy who just loves his ecchi and who has special powers and a female protagonist who is not of this world. Even the art style is close enough.
Winter 2015

Families in Japanese anime have weird dynamics, and more often than not, change family members on a split-second. Basara Toujou suddenly finds himself with two new stepsisters, the buxom redhead Mio and the small silver-haired Maria. While the anime could have been about the siscon complex of a perfectly normal young man and his two perfectly normal stepsisters, Mio and Maria are not normal; they are demons, Mio the only daughter of the Demon Lord and Maria her succubus servant. But their background is not important to Basara, not even after he reveals himself to be part of a lineage of demon slayers. He cares about his sisters and wants to protect them, from heroes and demons alike.
Both anime are full of action-packed battles and ecchi fan-service. There is a new OVA coming in March 2018. Learn more about it here:

I really can’t believe it’s been 8 years since Highschool of the Dead, one of the most memorable ecchi action anime of the decade. Highschool of the Dead is about a group of high school students who find themselves in the middle of a deadly pandemic that turns people into zombies. Not a new concept in Hollywood and video games but the ecchi elements of this survival horror anime make it unique in its own peculiar way.
Summer 2008 | Season 1: 12 Episodes
Summer 2010 | Season 2: 13 Episodes
Failing your college entrance exams not once but twice? That would have made anyone feel like a failure, especially Minato Sahashi, a brilliant young man who just finds the exams a bit difficult. What he needed to change his mood was a woman. This woman, however, fell from the sky right into his life. This is not how things normally go, do they? Musubi is a creature known as Sekirei, an alien in human form who has special abilities. Their purpose is to find people who carry a special Ashikabi gene and kiss them, like the from in the fairytale, to awaken latent powers within them. Minato is such a person, and after kissing him, Musubi drags him into the world of a battle called Sekirei Plan.
Supernatural powers? Check. Ecchi moments? Check. Somewhat of a decent plot? Check.
Winter 2011 | Season 1: 12 Episodes
Fall 2013 | Season 2: 12 Episodes
Enough fantasy for now. How about a similar science fiction anime? In Freezing, humanity is under siege by an alien race, the Novas. The only line of defense is young women, Pandoras, and young men, Limiters, who are implanted with superhuman powers and trained in a military academy in order to be ready to go against the aliens. Kazuya Aoi is a Limiter on his first day at the academy. There he meets a Pandora who looks just like his deceased sister. The two partner together to fight the Novas.
Ecchi, harem, shonen, and exciting battles. You can’t go wrong with Freezing.
Winter 2008 | Season 1: 13 Episodes
Fall 2008 | Season 2: 13 Episodes
What is wrong with Japanese anime schools? Youkai Academy seems like your regular school, except that the students are monsters who are trying to learn how they can coexist with humanity. Quite a noble goal, since humans have been known to be really afraid of creatures that could be potentially lethal. Yet, for a school that wants to teach its students how to live together with humans, it has a pretty barbaric rule against them: all humans found on school grounds are to be executed immediately! That immediately raises the question of how the main character managed to enroll to the academy, but who cares, since Tsukune Aono is going to meet Moka Akashiya, a vampire, and with her embark on a journey that took two full anime seasons.
Spring – Summer 2008
26 Episodes
Girls tend to fall from the sky in ecchi harem anime and the same happened to the protagonist of this one, 16-year-old Rito Yuuki. While his only concern is to confess his love to his crush, Haruna Sairenji, he finds himself in an awkward situation when a naked girl falls right on top of him as he takes a bath. The girl, Lala Satalin Deviluke (really, who thinks of these names), is an alien princess who wants to marry Rito so she can avoid a political marriage, arranged against her will.
The alien princess is joined by a colorful cast of beautiful women, and Rito finds it incredibly hard to confess to his one true love.

16-year-old Kusanagi Godo has a very tough job. As the God Slayer who has defeated the God of War, he has a sacred duty he can’t refuse: he needs to fend off other gods who try to bring trouble to his turf. Yet, these gods are not his only problem. His status attracts several female worshippers who are all ready and willing to serve him in any way possible.
This harem fantasy anime is full of action scenes and lewd moments. Like the rest of the anime on this list, it’s about a male lead who works together with a group of very beautiful girls against a common enemy.
Winter-Spring 2010 | Season 1: 24 Episodes
Spring 2011 | Season 2: 12 Episodes
A strange young man called Alexander is saved by Mafuyu Oribe and her adopted sister Tomo. Alexander is an Iron Qwaser, a warrior who can call upon the power of an element to fight against his enemies. His quest is to find mystical relics known as High Circuit. Mafuyu and Tomo learn that the source of power for Qwasers is something they’d never expected.
Seikon no Qwaser is an action-heavy story that doesn’t shy away from fan-service, especially considering the unique nature of the Qwasers’ source of power.

Hida Kizuna is the only one who can save humanity. He possesses the HHG (Heart Hybrid Gear) ability which is used to replenish his female colleagues’ power and vitality as they fight invaders from a different dimension. The girls can only refuel their power reservoirs by having erotic experiences with Kizuna.
Some high-tech suit armors in this anime and a LOT of lew moments. You may want to be alone when you watch this.
Ecchi and harem aren’t always only about boobs and panty shots. Ok, they are, most of the times, but as these titles show, they can also be entertaining, with good plots, and some decent character development. These are not the only anime who are similar to High School DxD. Do you have more to add?
