Fall 2017 Anime: Official Twitter Hashtags & Pages
The MANGA.TOKYO staff had its share of summer. Now, all we wish is for the hot and humid weather to go away and give its place to the red and cool autumn.
Hajimete no Gal was one of our favorite titles from last season. This romantic story about a virgin guy who begins a quest to end his virginity but ends up in love with the sweetest gal alive was praised for its comedy and the way that it handled its fan service moments. Hajimete no Gal is a strong contestant for the most funny and innovative censorship in an ecchi anime series.
It was also part of our preview titles for Summer 2017, so if you want to see more screenshots, click on this link.
MANGA.TOKYO wants to recommend ten anime that are in some ways similar to Hajimete no Gal. Even though we are not in favor of categorizing anime in tags, the following 10 titles are a good place to start if you are looking for anime which have similar vibes.
Yamada, the protagonist of B Gata H Keii, is the most oversexed and lustful virgin I have seen in anime. She is even more licentious than her Fall 2017 counterpart in My Girlfriend is Shobitch. Her goal in high school is to have sex with 100 males. That is a very noble goal and she might have achieved it easily if she wasn’t insecure about something very important: she is a virgin herself. How do you get over something like that? You target a virgin boy, of course. The bulls-eye falls on Kosuda Takashi.
Like Hajimete no Gal, this romantic comedy is using a fan servicy plot to deliver a proper romance. Of course, the scenes you are looking for are there, but as Yame and Juunichi fell for each other, the same is slowly happening to Yamada and Takashi. This is the first anime you should watch if you liked Hajimete no Gal.
I swear to Anime God; if J.C.Staff doesn’t get us a Prison School Season 2 soon, I will crowdfund one myself. Not that I have any prior experience in anime production, but maybe I can get the money and travel to their production offices to fund the season myself! This is just the second 10 Anime Like article here on MANGA.TOKYO (first one about The Classroom of the Elite) and I find myself including Prison School again.
Why Prison School? It’s funny. It has a LOT of ecchi scenes. It’s funny. It has buxom ladies mistreating our protagonists. It’s funny. Fan service was made for Prison School. Did I mention that it’s funny? It’s also ridiculous enough to have glued on the screen. And if you think that one season is not enough, it has been adapted into a live action drama series. What are you waiting for? Ah, yeah, the plot.
Hachimitsu Academy has always been an all-girls school until it decided to take male students as well. The 5 intruders, at first, feel like their admission to the school is an one-way ticket to their own personal harem. After being caught for peeking in the girls’ changing room, they are sent to the school’s prison.
Winter – Spring 2005
Gals are a commonly misunderstood stereotype. Because of their tanned skin and their garments which tend to be on the sexy side, they are perceived as sluts and easy. Momo is not your typical gal, as her tanning is due to her being in the swimming team. Her crush, Toji, doesn’t like gals. How is she going to shed the stereotype of her and win Toji?
Does it get any more romance than this? I don’t know. I’m not into romance anime. But I have to admit that Peach Girl is a sweet story about a girl who needs to prove that there is not an elephant in the room. You won’t have the same fan service as in Hajimete no Gal, but the gals are all there.
Season 1: Winter 2008
Season 2: Fall 2008
Rosario + Vampire has so much fan service in it, the official dub trailer has a whole section of bouncing boobs and panty shots labeled ‘Fan Service’. This is another ecchi + supernatural monsters plot where Tsukune Aono is enrolled in a school where all the students are monsters, hiding there as regular people. It always has to be a school though, doesn’t it? If only his blood wasn’t so sweet to attract a beautiful vampire girl named Moka, he would have been already dead. Instead he gets to sit two season among beautiful girls, unwillingly grabbing boobs, getting a shot of too many panties, and your classical romance plot that needs to be in an otherwise lewd scenario.
12 Episodes (Short Form)
I rarely include short comedy anime in my recommendations, but Please Tell Me! Galko-chan is special in its own adorable and perverted way. Similar to Hajimete no Gal’s Yuna, the protagonist may have the name and appearance of a gal, but in reality is a very inexperienced and innocent girl who is embarrassed about her body. Her friend Otako is an otaku (got it? Otako – Otaku) who fuels the semi-lewd jokes of this short anime that relies more on separate gags than a plot (there isn’t any, actually. Just sexy girls doing cute things). Her classmate Ojou is a rich girl (ojou – rich girl – hello) who is friendly and a bit of an idiot.
In a nutshell, don’t expect much on the fan service, but do expect MANY cute girls having somewhat vulgar conversations.
Take Hajimete no Gal, add a few supernatural bits here and there, stir with cliche teenage problems, and you the story of Ryosuke Kaga, a guy who is a little too keen to say yes to a smokey hot babe he just met. Lisara is a shimigami, a goddess of death, and gradually steals Ryosuke’s teenage essence that allows him to enjoy all the things regular teenagers enjoy, things like boobs and beautiful girls, the important stuff. Since Lisara is looking for something, Ryosuke has no choice but to join her.
Beautiful buxom girls and many almost-lewd situations. Does it remind you of anything?
Season 1: Fall 2012
Season 2: Winter 2014
Maken-ki! is based on a manga series by Hiromitsu Takeda. It is a romantic comedy (well, most on this list are romantic comedies) about Takeru Ohyama, your typical perverted protagonist. His new school has recently turned co-ed and Takeru dreams of a sexy high school life. Yet, as it happens in supernatural romantic comedies, there is something wrong with the school. The students take part in duels using a magic item called Maken. Takeru has two problems: he needs to find his own Maken and take care of all the boob problems that seem to find their way to him.
Maken-ki! is not going to win any storytelling awards anytime soon but it’s great for what it offers: fan service.
Season 1: Winter 2012
Season 2: Summer 2013
Season 3: Spring 2015
36 Episodes + 12 OVAs
Another supernatural boobfest, High School DxD takes protagonist Issei Hyodo, a common pervert teenager, and grants his wish to have his own harem. Of course, not in the way Issei would have wanted his harem to be. One of the top waifus of anime fandom, Rias Gremory, resurrects him after he gets killed by a fallen angel and takes him in. He is to be a servant at the school’s Occult Research Club. I want you to guess what the other members of the club look like. Issei has to train hard in order to fight alongside his new friends, but be assured: there are enough lewd and fan service moments here to keep you occupied for three whole season (and a fourth in the works).
Oresura is another funny harem anime (I think Hajimete no Gal is considered a harem anime, even if I don’t like tags that much) produced by A-1 Pictures. The protagonist, Eita Kodou, is sick of love. He doesn’t want to do anything with it and his only dream is to someday become a doctor. Of course, he is not the only one to think that love is as pointless as pasta without sauce. His classmate, Masuzu, thinks the same but she is annoyed by the fact that everyone else seems to focus on romance. She believes that the only way to leave all love thoughts behind is to have a fake boyfriend. Eita is the perfect candidate.
We have seen everything from reverse harems to revenge romances. Oresura brings another twist to romance with a fake love.
Season 1: Fall 2009
Season 2: Fall 2010
1 OVA + 2 Films
When it comes to comedy shows similar to Hajimete no Gal, this is one of titles you should put on your list. Perversion and gag moments seem to go hand in hand with proper fan service, and Heaven’s Lost Property is not an exception.
In the anime, Tomoki Sakurai has a recurrent dream for as long as he can remember himself: he dreams of an angel. Of course, his female childhood friend, Mitsuki, is worried about him and seek help in the New World Discovery Club (where do they find all these names). I don’t want to spoil all the fun for you, but Tomoki does find the angel who moonlights as a genie since she can grant his wishes. What else could have he asked for? Of course, nothing goes smooth in anime.
Getting a first girlfriend is not easy for anime characters. On the one hand, they feel euphoric and sure that everything will go just fine, including losing their virginity. Yet, things never go as expected in anime (or real life) and you might get in adventures with vampires or on a quest to find a magical item.
