On 2 July, the first three episodes of the series The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome) were screened at Anime Expo 2017, with president George Wada of WIT Studio and director Norihiro Naganuma in attendance. The 1000-seats venue was full for this world premiere of WIT Studio’s new work. After the screening of the first three episodes, the audience showed their appreciation for the high quality series through loud applause and cheers.
There were even people in Chise, Elias, and Silky cosplays, showing how much fans in America were looking forward to the series. As a final part of the event, the guests answered some questions about the production and future business developments.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome) by Kore Yamazaki is very popular among manga and fantasy fans. It won many manga awards in 2015 and has so far sold over 4 million copies. In 2016, the anime adaptation ended with the release of three OVA episodes called The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Hoshi Matsu Hito, which were included in Volumes 6, 7 and 8 of the manga.
In October 2017, the TV anime The Ancient Magus’ Bride will finally start airing. Working on the animation is WIT Studio, who also worked on Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. They are continuing to produce high quality, emotional videos and will express the atmosphere of the original work in a way only anime can. The anime will start airing in Fall 2017 and will air for two cours, running through the Winter 2018 season as well.

‘I was very relieved that the American fans reacted in such a great way. I wanted to not only show this to those in Japan but to people all around the world, which is why we held this world premiere. It is wonderful that the American fans praised the detail that went into creating the world for this anime. Also, I am very glad that the original creator Kore Yamazaki (who also watched the movie at the venue) liked it as well. I want to show this anime to Japanese fans and fans all around the world as fast as possible.’
