2018 is almost out, guys and girls, and that means that another anime year is ready to take its place.
Whistle! W, the sequel of Daisuke Higuchi’s soccer manga Whistle!, started serialization on September 26. The first episode is currently distributed on Manga One, a Shogakukan comic application, and Ura Sunday, a web manga site.
Whistle! W focuses on Takumi, a middle school boy. In the first episode, we see the history of Takumi and past series leading character Shou Kazamatsuri, moving to the premium league. We still don’t know if Sho and other popular characters will reappear in this series. The second episode is planned to be distributed on October 3. Ura Sunday is focusing more on the fans and they are collecting illustrations and movies created by fans.
Whistle! is a soccer manga written by Daisuke Higuchi and it was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1998 to 2002. Its separate volumes have a circulation of 17 million and it is considered the top soccer comic. In summer of 2016, the exhibition ‘Daisuke Higuchi’s Exhibition of Original Pictures – 24 Years of History from Whistle’ was held for the first time and the TV Anime series started in 2002. The sequel and the new cast will try to boost the popularity of the series.
Manga One, Shogakukan’s manga application, has been released since December, 2014. Web manga site Ura Sunday includes in its library popular series from Weekly Shonen Sunday such as MAJOR and The World God Only Knows.
