The upcoming anime adaptation of light novel Violet Evergarden has revealed a new visual and trailer, and more info on the staff and cast. The Kyoto Animation production will air in Winter 2018 in Japan and Spring 2018 worldwide through Netflix.
Violet Evergarden is originally written by Kana Akatsuki and illustrated by Akiko Takase. There have been two volumes published so far.
Special Talk from Yui Ishikawa and the Director Himself
The news was announced at the 3rd Kyoto Animation fan event ‘Sound! From Kyoto to the World’ at the Rohme Theatre in Kyoto on 21 October 2017.Before the first two episodes were screened, Director Taichi Ishidate and Violet’s VA Yui Ishikawa took to the stage. The director said “I’m very nervous to show this to all of you, but I hope you enjoy watching Episodes 1 & 2. This was the Japan premiere for the first episode after screenings at Anime Expo 2017 and AnimagiC 2017 and the world premiere for the second.
The audience was sucked into the world of Violet Evergarden for the two consecutive episodes, and there was a massive round of applause when the screening ended.
Ishidate and Ishikawa returned to the stage and began the talk. Seeing the reaction of the audience, the director simply said that he was full of emotion. Ishikawa talked about her character, Violet Evergarden, as well as the audition and what it was like in the recording studio.
Next special guest TRUE, who is performing the opening theme for the anime, came on stage. She passionately sang the theme ‘Sincerely’ as part of a special live performance. TRUE then introduced the day’s surprise guest with ‘If you have an opening theme, then there will be an ending theme too. Today the ending artist has also come as a guest’. It was then that the ending artist Minori Chiihara came on stage to a huge amount of applause. Chihara will also be playing the character Erica Brown, who works at the same place as Violet, in the anime. She flawlessly performed the ending theme ‘Michishirube’.
After the special live performances, the director then talked a little about the production of the theme songs, and showed the audience the jacket designs for the theme song CDs.
Director Ishidate then said “When I was producing this anime, the only real obsession inside me was to do it ‘Seriously, simply, with no messing around’. I tried to sincerely face the character of Violet Evergarden and produce this series right to end, so I hope the viewers can see this and maybe get a little bit of power to think positively. I hope all of you can watch over Violet until the end, thank you very much.”. With the director’s words, the special event came to an end.

It’s been a long time since the Auto Memories Doll was born.
Dr. Orlando invented this machine for his blind wife Molly, who worked as a novelist, so that she could write even though she couldn’t see. The machine looked like a small and cute doll. And because it was built because of his thoughts and wishes for his wife, he called it Auto Memories Doll.
In the end, the Auto Memories Doll became popular and helped many people. It is now refers to the women who work to write for those who can’t do it anymore or express feelings on behalf of others to someone.
This is the story of one of the Auto Memories Dolls, Violet Evergarden, who lives in times of change and connects people’s hearts.
The novel was the first ever Grand Prize winner at the fifth Kyoto Animation Awards.

All the while, she’s in search of the meaning of those words.
