Bungo Stray Dogs is a manga written by Kafka Asakiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa, which follows an eclectic cast of characters named after famous authors. With most of the characters possessing supernatural powers, the series has gained so much popularity that it has been adapted into an anime by Studio Bones and the curtain recently closed on a very well-received stage adaptation.
A brand new theatrical animated movie, Bungo Stray Dogs Dead Apple, will be released on 3 March 2018 with a completely original story. In Japan, anime movies often give cinema-goers a special present at the movie theater. These presents can range from illustrated cards and badges to original manga!
The cinema-goer presents for the first two weeks of the movie will be two novels, written and illustrated by Asakiri and Harukawa!
The first of the novels, which will be available from 3 – 9 March, is to be titled Bungo Stray Dogs – Shiro no Akutagawa, Kuro no Atsushi (Akutagawa of White, Atsushi of Black) and will be a ‘what if’ story about what would have happened if Atsushi had entered Port Mafia and Akutagawa had joined the Armed Detective Agency. The novel will be 200-pages long!
The second novel, which will be available from 10 – 16 March, will be titled Bungo Stray Dogs Dazai, Chuya, Jugosai (Dazai, Chuya, 15 Years Old) and will tell us about the time Daizai and Chuya first met! This novel is also quite long with 150 pages.
The book covers have been revealed. If you look closely, both of them feature an apple, which seems to be an important theme for the movie. If you put the two novels together, the covers form one large illustration, so fans will surely be making multiple trips to the cinema to get hold of them both!
