Kotori Koiwai (Juliana), Asami Imai (Mishidia)
The TV Anime Chain Chronicle ~Haecceitas no Hikari~ began airing this month, and to commemorate the beginning of the TV series, Animate Shinjuku held a special event along with the members of the cast, Kotori Koiwai (who plays Juliana), Asami Imai (who plays Mishidia) and producer Yuichi Yamada. The event showed the first 20 minutes of Part 1 of the movie compilations, and then had a live commentary and a talk show with the cast.
After watching the 20-minute clip, Koiwai commented, ‘I don’t think there are that many works recently that work so hard and have this much power, it’s amazing!’ According to Yamada, the battle scene that appeared in the clip was a mixture of hand-drawn and computer-generated animation, which is what helped to create a more effective and powerful scene.
The clip went up to the moment where Pirika disappears holding the key from the story. Imai said about the recording, ‘When I read the script, I though “Huh?”, but when I was doing the recording and saw the images I thought “This is even crazier than in the script!”‘
Imai added, ‘To start a story with the hero losing, that’s pretty different isn’t it?’ Yamada then chimed in, ‘There were so many ideas that it was hard to decide what to go with’ and talked a little about the planning of the series.
Yamada brought up the good ending of the game on which the anime is based. He wanted to base the anime on the notion that ‘If the hero ends up losing, what happens next?’
Koiwai finished the event talking about the appeal of both the TV series and the movies: ‘Chain Chronicle really is an amazing work. If you watch the TV series then I’m sure you’ll end up itching to see the second part of the compilation movies. So please enjoy this version too!’
