I already miss the summer. There is something about feeling the sun on your skin and the taste of ice-cream that makes the season a favorite for many.
Upcoming Summer 2018 anime Tsukumogami Kashimasu (We Rent Tsukumogami), based on Megumi Hatekenaka’s novel of the same name, has released a bunch of new information: a beautiful new key visual, additional cast members, and character introductions. It has also been revealed that famous kabuki actor Ainosuke Kataoka will be narrating the series.
The title will air in Japan on Mondays at 00:10 beginning on 23 July 2018.

A tobacco pipe tsukumogami. When tsukumogami lively talk about rumors, Goi has the habit of trying to put these rumors together. However, there are many things that can’t be summarized. His previous owner, before coming to Izumoya, was a glamorous and beautiful geisha.

In addition to the above-mentioned information, we have also got hold of MIYAVI and Mai Kuraki’s comments.
‘This anime has been made in consideration of how to portray Japan’s unique values like abjectness, modesty, and more. I think you can enjoy the used items that became spirits called tsukumogami and their worldview.’
‘I am Mai Kuraki, the artist of the ending song. I have created the song to fit the story and imagined it to be a timeslip that takes place in Edo, which unfolds a story including love, tears, and youkai [laugh]. The time I wrote the lyrics, I wasn’t sure of which worldview I should use for them. So I seriously tried to listen carefully, in the hope the tsukumogami would whisper me a good phrase. I am excited to have the honor of seeing it every week!’

The siblings Seiji and Okou are the owners of Izumoya, a rental shop in Nakacho, Fukugawa in Edo. The rental shop rents from daily necessities and antiques to art objects. However, the handling tools in this Izumoya are slightly different from other shops. Among the items available to rent are Japanese spirits called ‘tsukumogami’, which are things which become sentient after 100 years of use. These spirits are lent to customers, listen to their stories and when they come back, they spread rumors. The kind and compassionate Okou and Seiji are solving small and big problems with the help of the tsukumogami.
