Fujio Akatsuka’s comedy manga Tensai Bakabon will get a late-night anime adaptation starting in July 2018! The teaser visual, main cast, and tribute illustrations by popular manga authors have been revealed. The anime, which is the first in 18 years, will be directed by Toru Hosokawa, who has promised that it will be closer to the original manga than any other adaptation before and will show a free and radical Bakabon.
Arata Furuta is a Japanese theater and film actor and will voice Bakabon’s father- arguably one of the most famous and popular manga characters within Japan. His son Bakabon will be voiced by Miyu Irino, Bakabon’s mother by Noriko Hidaka, the genius baby Hajime is voiced by Ai Nonaka, Rerere no Oji-san by Akira Ishida, the police officer by Toshiyuki Morikawa and Unagi-Inu by Takahiro Sakurai.
The director and screenwriter for this series will be Toru Hosokawa. It will be his first TV anime as a director and he said, ‘It will be a late-night anime because I want to make a Bakabon anime as free and radical as the original manga is, which we haven’t seen yet in TV. The script and the art is the result of all the staff members playing around with it while creating it. I think Furuta will also be able to talk freely.’
Furuta himself said, ‘That I get to voice the big hero of Tensai Bakabon, the “Papa”, makes me very happy but also lets me feel the pressure. I will no accept complaints like “The Papa I imagined wouldn’t say it like that!”‘
To celebrate the announcement of the new Tensai Bakabon anime, some of the most popular manga artists that are somehow connected to Fujio Akatsuka have drawn celebratory illustrations. Tetsuya Chiba who is known for Ashita no Joe, Kenichi Kitami (Tsuribaka Nisshi), Mitsuru Adachi (Touch) and Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha) all drew a tribute illustration and each one is a masterwork full of love and respect for their colleague.
Look forward to more information about Late-night! Tensai Bakabon in the future!
