The smartphone game Onmyoji, which has been downloaded over 250 million times worldwide, is getting an anime adaptation! The anime will be titled Onmyo Hyakki Monogatari and is scheduled to air in 2020. Cast members include Noriaki Sugiyama, Rie Kugimiya, Tatsuhisa Suzuki and Miyuki Sawashiro. The game is currently celebrating its third anniversary and has a story that is set in the Heian period (794-1185). The player finds themselves in Kyoto during the Heian period where Abe no Seimei tries to keep the balance between humans and demons, and also to regain a certain something he lost as he works together with Shikigami.
The voice cast for the series has been announced. Abe no Seimei will be voiced by Sugiyama, Kugimiya will voice a mysterious girl who Seimei meets suddenly. Suzuki voices the young nobleman Minamoto no Horimasa, and Sawashiro voices a the fortune-teller Yao Bikuni, who is immortal after eating the flesh of a mermaid.
