The second Gintama live action movie (coming into cinemas on 17 August 2018) has revealed that Masaki Suda and Kanna Hashimoto will continue to act as Shimura Shinpachi and Kagura. The two of them joined Shun Oguri, who will reprise his role as Gintoki, and posed for a movie poster.
It wasn’t certain until now if the cast members would return for the sequel, and aside from Shun Oguri, the only confirmed person has been Jiro Sato as a character different to the one he played in the first movie. It is now confirmed that the whole team of the odd-jobs store will come together again.
The first movie was such a big hit last year that the sequel was announced in less than a year, with the filming already underway and the release date announced. Oguri said about the second movie, ‘From the beginning, Fukuda said that he wanted to do more than one movie, so thankfully many fans will come to watch it. Thanks to them, we can make a continuation, that’s great.’ Suda said, ‘Even for other movies, people often talk about a sequel, but there are only a few who are able to realize that hope, so I am very happy we get to do the second movie.’
The shooting of the movie ended this month and Suda commented, ‘Compared to the first movie, Oguri was allowed to act even more freely so it looked like a lot of fun. Hashimoto laughed even more than in the previous movie. Working between those two people made me feel comfortable as Shinpachi.’
A character visual has been revealed of the three members of the odd-jobs shop. The posters this time geared up a bit and were designed to not include the title of the movie on it. However, they do not fail to express that it’s about the second movie. The characters simply hold up two fingers in a peace-pose.
Only at the side of the poster, each character has a sentence written, ‘A sequel means twice the pressure!’, ‘It would be good if double the viewers came to watch,’ ‘It would be great if there were two times the food during shootings!’ For now, there has been no official title or a story revealed and it seems like we can expect more character visuals in the future!
