The event ‘Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Yose –Shinjuku, Asakusa, Ikebukuro, Rakugo Matsuri- (Showa Genroku Storyteller Double Suicide Vaudeville –Comic Story Festival at Shinjuku, Asakusa,and Ikebukuro-)‘ will be held on January 31, 2017 on three stages: Shinjuku Suehirotei, Asakusa Entertainment Hall, and Ikebukuro Entertainment Hall.
The event will commemorate the anime adaptation of Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu (Showa Genroku Storyteller Double Suicide), originally written by Haruko Kumota. Rakugo storytellers will perform rakugo (comic storytelling) which is an important part of the manga series.
The event will have all-star storytellers who will perform famous stories familiar to the manga fans, including ‘Shinigami (God of Death)’. For the performance held at Suehirotei, Kumota will show up as a guest speaker. The advance tickets are sold at both Ticket Pia and the Rakugo Association. The second season for the animation, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen will broadcast from January 6, 2017 on MBS, and followed by other channels. MANGA.TOKYO has included the title in its list of episodic anime reviews for Winter 2017. The first season can be watched online.
