The Saber Artoria Pendragon of the Fate series will come to life in the Fate Kishi-ou wo Genkai Sasete Mita Project Mapping, a movie using illuminations and project mapping. The video publisher, Gomi, is part of a technical circle called Techno Alta. They have already worked on cosplays which link swords and smartphones and also put Majin Kyoukan of the Touhou Project into the real world through illuminations.
For this project mapping, Gomi was in charge of the planning, programming, and directing to create Artoria Pendragon, one of the most famous representatives of the Fate series. They tried to make her holy sword Excalibur release light as it is wielded.
Rather than the person having to move according to the projection mapping, the mapping reacts to the movement of the sword. It recognizes how fast and where Excalibur is moving and projects it in real time.
Excalibur was partly produced using a 3D printer. There is an acceleration sensor stored in the sword and a module to control the illumination. Techno Alta incorporates digital technology to create their projects.
The background is based on Fuyuki City of Fate/Zero and was created in 3D. It was created by Megadebu and mon7. The armor and other small crafts were done by Wasabi and the sword was constructed by dai.
The whole team is made up of volunteers who worked over half a year on this project mapping. Gomi also provided details on the production, like the costumes, props, digital techniques etc. Why don’t you take a look at behind the scenes, to see how Artoria Pendragon was created?
