It is time for part three of the Otaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (lit. ‘Love is Hard for Otaku’, AKA ‘WotaKoi’) teaser series.
After introducing the main characters, Narumi Momose and Hirotaka Nifuji in the first teaser and Hanako Koyanagi and Taro Kabakura in the second, the newest trailer introduces Hirotaka’s younger brother. His name is Naoya Nifuji, and unlike his brother, is not an otaku. His friend Kou Sakuragi, a plain game otaku, is introduced together with him. Naoya will be voiced by Yuki Kaji and Kou will be voiced by Aoi Yuki. We can listen to them in the teaser video, where they comment on their anime character designs. Unfortunately, the video is restricted to Japan, but if you still want to know what they talk about, you can read a summary at the end of the article. The first trailer for the anime is slated to be released on 25 January 2018!
Otaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii will start airing in April in the Noitamina program of Fuji TV and depicts the clumsy romance between otaku. The official website of the series offers free high-quality wallpapers with the teaser visuals!
As the video is only available in Japanese, we thought we would give you a short summary of what happened in this really unique introduction video!
The video starts with the two characters announcing the title of the series, with Kou managing to stutter when reading the title. Naoya introduces himself with a lot of energy, then Kou introduces herself without much confidence. When Naoya says that the introduction went smoothly, Kou repeatedly apologizes for stuttering. Naoya says that it’s fine and tries to build her up, saying they will work hard together for the advertisement. Instead of saying she will work hard to promote the series, she says ‘I will work hard not to be a burden’, showing her lack of self-confidence.
Naoya seems to be very used to her because he skips her comment and proceeds to the main part of the video. He announces that the teaser visual with their anime designs has been released and invites everybody to applaud by saying ‘clap clap clap’. He says they are very happy about it and that they will appear in the anime! Kou replies with ‘Y-yes, I’m looking forward to what you will do in the anime.’ We then get to see the visual, which we already shared with you above! Both seem to be quite impressed. Naoya wants to see the characters move and speak soon! Of course, Kou panics again, saying that she hopes she’s only a ‘mob character’… Naoya gets confused and thinks that Mob is a character’s name, and wonders if she won’t be playing Sakuragi. Kou explains that a ‘mob’ character is a background character, i.e. ‘Passerby A’ or ‘Student A’. Naoya is impressed by her detailed knowledge, mentions he wouldn’t know and she replies that it’s not really detailed knowledge and apologizes. He doesn’t react to the apology and says that he will work hard to be a good background character together with Kou-kun! Kou is confused because Naoya is definitely not a background character. He says that the story will be about Momose and his older brother, so he is a person surrounding the main character and he will end up being the ‘younger brother N.’
She explains that with a detailed character visual like that and a face drawn like this (we get to see a zoom on the face) he definitely can’t be considered just a background character. The video ends by mentioning that his two friends said they wanted to show their faces, and wondering what it could mean… However, Kou flusters and hurriedly tells him it’s time to go. They try to say the title of the series together again, which makes Kou chant a mantra of ‘I can’t fail again, I can’t fail again…’
Kou-kun messes up once again at the end, finishes reading much faster than Naoya and starts to apologize again. The last thing we hear is Naoya telling her to calm down.
