Although the visual for main characters Narumi Momose and Hirotaka Nifuji have already been revealed (check it out on the website!), this time we are introduced to Narumi’s co-worker and cosplayer Hanako Koyanagi and her boyfriend, the slight otaku Taro Kabakura.
Furthermore, a teaser video with Miyuki Sawashiro as Hanako and Tomokazu Sugita as Taro has been uploaded on YouTube (restricted to Japan, we have a written a summary and translation for you below this article, so check it out!). They also announced that the next teaser would be up on 18 January and will introduce Naoya Nifuji and Kou Sakuragi.
Otaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii (WotaKoi for short) will start airing as a part of Fuji TV’s Noitamina starting April 2018. It shows the clumsy love between nerds. As the video is only available in Japanese, we thought we would give you a short summary of what happened in the really unique introduction video!
The teaser video is very simple, with Hanako and Taro talking with each other. In the beginning, they introduce each other and then talk about how it’s strange that the two of them have ended up recording a trailer with just the two of them since normally it would be Narumi and Hirotaka’s job. Hanako then proceeds to scold Taro out of the blue and tells him to do it properly. According to Hanako, Taro is always awful at promoting things. He reacts very badly, calling her ‘ugly’ and she returns it with ‘stupid!’ and says she always has to back him up and it’s really annoying. He gets angry and claims that he’s always taking things seriously. Hanako isn’t impressed, claiming that it’s only natural that he SHOULD be taking things seriously as results are important. Taro retorts by claiming she always suddenly gets in the way and bursts out that she shouldn’t hold him back. A countdown appears on the screen and they suddenly stop bickering as the visual of them standing next to each other is revealed.
Hanako and Taro are suddenly rather calm and a bit shy to see their own visuals for the anime. Next, their heads drawn in manga style appear, pasted onto a stick as if someone is holding it up and into the camera. Their expressions change according to the things they say and at first, they look very pleased. They agree that the visual looks very beautiful, just like the previous visual of Narumi and Hirotaka. The screen zooms into Taro, as Hanako says that she was worried about his lame appearance and how it would work in an anime, but that it turned out well. He returns the favor by saying that she looks beautiful, and wondered if the animator’s actually made a mistake. She gets angry, but he dodges her, and Hanako announces that the next visual to be revealed will be of Naoya and Kou. Taro says that Kou was the person Hirotaka’s brother Naoya brought with him last time. He mentions that it’s strange that the first two visuals were male-female pairs but next time will be two guys. Hanako mutters under her breath ‘You mean you haven’t realized yet…?’ but when Taro asks what she said, she pretends she didn’t say anything. Finally, Taro gasps and sounds very excited when he realizes that the anime will air in the famous Noitamina timeslot!
