Mao Nanami’s manga 3D Kanojo: Real Girl will get a live action adaptation.
It tells a clumsy love story between the very real and beautiful Iroha Igarashi and Hikaru ‘Tsuttsun’ Tsutsui, a game and anime otaku who has been content with his relationships with virtual girls. The series was serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert and has 12 volumes.
For this movie, Ayami Nakajo will take on the role of Iroha while Tsuttsun is played by Hayato Sano, a member of the Japanese boy group M!LK. The director of the movie will be Tsutomu Hanabusa, who also directed Heroine Disqualified. Nanami, original creator of 3D Kanojo said, ‘I still can’t hide my surprise about it becoming a live action movie. I feel like I don’t know what is going on in my life right now.’ Nakajo said, ‘I want to make a film that feels like Iroha, who is doing everything in her own pace and involving those around her, kindly and happily living with everybody.’
The movie be released in Japanese cinemas in 2018.
Comment from Mao Nanami
‘I still can’t hide my surprise about it becoming a live action movie. I felt like no one really knows what can happen in life. To my readers and all those involved in the media, I am so thankful to everybody who made this possible. I am looking forward to seeing the completed movie.’
Comment from Nakajo Ayami (Iroha Igarashi)
‘When I read the manga, I could feel Nanami’s love in every word, every picture and each character, and I am happy to be able to talk about a work full of love!
When I went through the lines with the director, he told me that the character was so well made. That put the hurdle for me very high and made me nervous, but I want to make a film that feels like Iroha, who is doing everything in her own pace and involving those around her, kindly and happily living with everybody.’
Comment from Hayato Sano (Hikaru Tsutsui)
‘While reading the manga, I started to really like Tsutsui’s character. I think he is a good man.He could be seen as a dark character, but he is very serious about everything. I will try to challenge this character from many different angles!’
Comment from director Tsutomu Hanabusa
‘Nakajo and Sano are a perfect cast to bring Iroha and Tsuttsun to life. I want to make this into a movie where people would look back onto the two actors and think of it as a movie that could only be done now, that has the air of a nice day during summer holidays. I can’t wait for it.’
Comment from the producer
‘When Heroine Disqualified was released, we checked social media and felt like the middle and high schoolers are very sensitive about their relationships with friends and other people, and that “communication” was a keyword. Then we found this manga, in which “communication skills” play an important part and Hanabusa and I knew instantly “This will be our next project together!” And I think there is nobody else who could play Iroha like Nakajo. It’s as if she jumped straight out of the manga, that’s how real and beautiful she is. And Sano is playing Hikaru spot on, as he is a character that hasn’t been involved with many people for 18 years and in consequence turned too dark and is a bit cold. The team of Heroine Disqualified have gathered again and are challenging this romantic comedy. Look out for this movie with everything: laughter, tears and scenes that will make your heart skip a beat.’
