Oshi ga Budokan Ittekuretara Shinu is getting an anime adaptation in 2020! The series has released a first trailer, a teaser visual showing Eripiyo, the official logo, and some character art.
The manga by Auri Hirao is currently being serialized in Tokuma Shoten’s Monthly Comic Ryu and tells the story of a hardcore otaku who is a fan of one specific idol!
The title of this series uses two terms that are familiar among idol or J-pop fans. ‘Oshi’ refers to the member of an idol group one likes and supports the most. The term has many hidden meanings but one of them is ‘to push’, since with the support of a fan, they are ‘pushed’ to fame. Budokan is a very famous stadium in Tokyo that holds many concerts. One of the goals for every singer and group is to stand on that stage there, since many famous artists have held concerts there. In this sense, the title translates to ‘If my favorite member were to perform at Budokan, I would die’.

Eripiyo is a passionate otaku who has devoted her life to idol member Maina of the local idol group, ChamJam, in Okayama prefecture, while donning the red tracksuit from the local high school. She swings around her light sticks shining in salmon pink. Eripiyo roots only for Maina. She devotes all her income to her oshi (favorite member and best girl, Maina), thinks about her 24 hours a day, and cries out her name with all her might during events, which has made Eripiyo a legendary otaku among the other otaku in her area.
‘If one day Maina can stand on the stage at Budokan… I will die from happiness.’
