On 3 July 2017 at the Anime Expo 2017 in Los Angeles, a new anime called Sora Yorimo Tooi Basho (A place further than the Sky) was announced during the stage event held by director Atsuko Ishizuka and series compositor and screenwriter Jukki Hanada, the team behind the popular anime No Game No Life.
The key visuals that have been released with the announcement show four girls in the vast landscape of the Antarctica and written below is the phrase, ‘High school girls head toward the Antarctica!’ How cute!
The team of No Game No Life (Atsuko Ishizuka, Jukki Hanada, and Madhouse) comes together again for an original anime. Atsuko Ishizuka is an exceptional director, who can do anything from artistic anime to simple entertainment and has demonstrated exceptional talent working in various genres. She will be joining hands with Jukki Hanada, who has worked on both original anime as well as series like Love Live! and is said to give magic to every story he writes. Together they will bring us another miracle. This time, they send high school girls to Antarctica.
And at some point we started our way with a step.
Places we have never seen,
things we have never heard,
scents we have never smelled,
things we have never touched before,
a taste like we have never tasted before
and feelings we have never experienced before.
They help us gain back the fragments of emotion lost unknowingly over the years on this journey.
What will we think once we arrive?
Barking at -40 degrees, howling at -50 degrees and shouting out loud at -60 degrees, in this primitive wilderness beyond the roaring ocean.
Far away from the civilization at the tip of the world, furthest south.
This is Antarctica and the place the four girls travel to, while they aim for ‘a place further than the universe’.
We follow the girls into a time when we remember how dazzling life can be.
