Night is Short, Walk On Girl (Yoru wa Mijikashi, Arukeyo Otome) participated at the Ottawa International Animation Festival 2017 (20-24 September 2017) in Ottawa, Canada and won the prize of Best Animated Feature. The Ottawa International Animation Festival is the biggest film festival in North America that focuses on animation and this year marks the first time that a Japanese movie with a Japanese director has won Best Animated Feature.
Director Masaaki Yuasa also took the megaphone into his hands for the 2017 movie Lu Over the Wall (Yoake Tsugeru Lu no Uta) and the movie won the Crystal Award for a Feature Film at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in June 2017. In Japan, the director also won an award from the Agency of Cultural Affairs.
Yuasa said in his thank-you speech, ‘When I visited Ottawa four years ago for my short film Kick-heart, it became a lasting memory. To receive an award from this festival now makes me feel really honored. Congratulations to the staff members as well! And the cast!’
He added, ‘I am really happy that even more people can see the movie! The girl who walks the streets of Kyoto is now able to walk around the world!’
