After losing to Aoba Josai at the Interhigh championship, the Karasuno High volleyball team are preparing to make their come-back at the Spring High!
The Haikyu Hyper Projection Play is based on Haruichi Furudate’s highly-praised manga Haikyu, which is currently being published in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga has so far sold over 23 million volumes. The stage adaptation of the manga has had 4 runs so far, starting with Winners and Losers in November 2015 and most recently The View at the Top in March 2017. The shows have been received with much enthusiasm and use the latest technology to depict the volleyball matches on stage, performed by the outstandingly enthusiastic cast members. In April 2017, the show also stepped off the stage and the Haikyu Hyper Projection Play Exhibition took place for around a month.
In Fall 2017, the new Hyper Projection Play, called Summer of Evolution (Shinka no Natsu) will be performed in Tokyo, Osaka, Hyogo, Miyagi, and Fukuoka!
The cast, main visual, and dates were revealed in the 29 May issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. The new show will focus on Karasuno as they prepare to make their comeback after being defeated by Aoba Josai at the Interhigh.
The new show will depict the summer camp that Karasuno go to with Nekoma High and Fukurodani High! At a camp with such powerful players, will our Karasuno boys get strong?
Comment from scriptwriter and director, Worry Kinoshita
‘So far the plays had the drama taking place on the court, but this time we will have the drama take place places off the court as well. This time the Karasuno Volleyball team will leave the sports hall and visit various places. We will depict the youth of these characters off the court in a way that is especially suited to a stage play. This may be brand new territory for the Haikyu stage play. It will also be a story of the hardships of the Karasuno team as they evolve. There will also be more laughter and emotions than before. We also have some brand new cast members joining us. One of the things that draws you into this show is the ensemble cast, and the various characters and various drama that all pieces together like a jigsaw puzzle. The rehearsals will surely be refreshing and exciting. And the actual performance even more so! It will continue to evolve. Please expect great things from it!’
