In Episode 37 of My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia), two new characters appeared as the new villains! We now have both their character design and their cast. Hiro Shimono was cast as Dabi, the mysterious man with his whole body covered in black, and Misato Fukuen was cast as Himiko Toga, the high school girl with a slightly crazy vibe.
My Hero Academia is based on the manga of the same name by Kohei Horikoshi, which is currently being serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump. It tells the story of Izuki ‘Deku’ Midoriya, who lives in a world where about 80% of the people have some kind of superpower (also called ‘Quirk’) and he is attending a school that has produced many famous heroes.
The new character designs are for Dabi and Himiko Toga, who will stand up against the heroes as villains. Dabi is standing out with his spiky black hair and patches of dark skin that seem attached to his mouth. The everlasting grin that he seems to wear because of the darker skin makes him look a bit spooky and the way he poses in the artwork leaves no doubt that there will be a strong enemy coming for our heroes. Hiro Shimono, who was cast as his voice, said, ‘I was cast for Dabi. My name is Hiro Shimono. Dabi is really a mysterious character, so I am thrilled to see how I will play him and am really looking forward to it! I will give my best so all of you HeroAca fans can enjoy the series!’
Himiko’s trademark is her bun-styled hair and cat-like canine teeth. She looks cute in her school uniform, but she is also one of the villains. Misato Fukuen was cast for her voice. She commented, ‘I really wanted to be part of this series, so when I got the good news, I was so happy that I skipped while walking for the first time in a long while! [laugh]. And on top of that, I will be Toga-chan! I feel so honored, I don’t know what to say. I am doing my best for the recording while working out with the production team and my co-stars on how to capture her bizarre spirit in the midst of all those unique characters gathered in the series. I would be happy if you also look forward to the series!’
