The ‘full-sized, 18m-tall Gundam standing statue’ was set at Odaiba in Tokyo in 2009 and became a new sightseeing spot. The project ‘Gundam GLOBAL CHALLENGE’ will place a real-sized Gundam at Yokohama’s Yamashita Wharf and the mecha will even move. It will be a big project that will gather experts from various fields, disclose the data, and seek participants from all over the world. This is a project we can’t take our eyes off as we’re eager to see what the fusion of Gundam and Japan’s ‘manufacturing and technology’ can produce.
One of the most famous rock guitarists in Japan, SUGIZO (LUNA SEA, X JAPAN), who is a Gundam fan that ‘wants to be Char’, is producing the 40th Anniversary Project’s theme song ‘The Beyond’. SUGIZO revealed a demo of the song during the presentation. However, as SUGIZO strives for peace and human rights issues through his music, the theme song is likely to become a song that makes you feel aspirations of the future and an imposing worldview. SUGIZO will also develop masterpieces of past Gundam songs and collaborate with various artists.
There will be more fascinating projects such as a film concert covering masterpieces of previous Gundam works with images and first local collaborations with each region. Further details on the 40th Anniversary Project are to be revealed.
