Megumi Hayashibara’s new album, With You, is a tribute to the late Ritsuko Okazaki, the singer-songwriter known for numerous outstanding anime songs. Okazaki suddenly passed away back in 2004. Hayashibara and Okazaki were close friends, and most of the songs on the album were written for her.
The album is coming out on 3 May 2017 and the production company has released the first music video. It will contain 2 disks for a total of 25 songs, ranging from her original songs to popular anime opening and ending theme songs including the TV anime Love Hina‘s theme song ‘Sakurasaku.’ The album is also packed with a lot of newly-arranged songs such as ‘For Fruits Basket for Youth.’
The music video was filmed using a drone on Okazaki’s childhood home island of Hashima (also known as Gunkanjima) in Nagasaki prefecture. The island is famously known for being abandoned in the late 1970s. While the video shows many deserted buildings, we can also see clear blue skies, as well as beautiful green grass, spreading all over the island, showing that it is still alive in the same way as it used to be.
The video was created with the hope of conveying to us the great vigor of nature. The song ‘Aozora’ is playing in the background and you can feel its warm and positive power that is similar to the one found in Okazaki’s songs.
On June 11, she will also be holding her own live show at Nakano Sunplaza Hall for the first time since her debut.

Taking advantage of my school days, where I spent a lot of my free time with music and anime, I look for new content and want to expose the fun side of Japan’s Otaku culture.
My favorite anime is Gurren Lagann!
