Marukome’s tear-jerking anime commercial continues: The 4th episode “Ryoutei no Aji (The taste of luxury restaurant) liquid miso, Visiting Tokyo”
Marukome, a Japanese miso manufacturer, has been introducing “tear-jerking” anime commercials on TV since October, 2014. It’s been two years since it started airing their first episode, yet every time a new episode gets introduced, the internet and TV shows buzz over how tear-jerking it is.
The 4th episode of this popular commercial ad, “Ryoutei no Aji (The taste of luxury restaurant) liquid miso, Visiting Tokyo” is being introduced on TV all over Japan since April 7th. They have already released it on the internet, and it is already receiving the high reputation of “tear-jerking” yet again.
The anime commercial series started in April 2014 with its first episode titled “Ryoutei no Aji, plenty and economical, Mother and Son”. They released its second episode “Ryoutei no Aji, instant miso soup with genuine miso, Working Away from Home” in October 2014, and then the third “Ryoutei no Aji, cup miso soup, Midnight Meal” in February 2015.
The animation is produced by Robot Communications Inc., renowned as an Academy Award winner with their animated short film “つみきのいえ /La Maison en Petits Cubes”. The studio is well known not only for anime but also for many reputable movies such as “踊る大捜査線/Bayside Shakedown” series and live action adaption films such as “Assasination Classroom”. Being produced by a prominent Japanese studio, the series draw a considerable attention every time.
This episode starts with the scene where a mother travels to Tokyo from Hiroshima, to visit her friend. “I’ll be staying at my friend’s place tomorrow”, the mother is worried about any trouble she may give her son’s family, and the son replies pleasantly with the familiar local accents, “Don’t worry about it, not like we can take the best care of you here”. The conversation reminds her of the days when her son was a bad boy and she realizes how he grew up into a fine man, and it touches our heart.
Then the next morning, she sees her son wearing an apron, cooking breakfast and packing lunch for the family. She tells him she wouldn’t mind having bread for breakfast like her grandson, and he responds “Mom, you always eat rice for breakfast, don’t you?” and prepares her a hot bowl of miso soup and another of rice, with his familiar local accents coming out again. Men relate to the son, women relate to the mother, it’s such a touching scene for everyone.
It has 30 seconds version and 90 seconds version, and you can watch both on Youtube. If you like feeling sentimental, go check it out.
