Mahojin Guru Guru is back! The anime that seems like an old-school RPG is based on a manga by Hiroyuki Etou and has already been adapted into anime two times before. Enjoy our preview of Episode 1 and go on an adventure with Nike and Kukuri!
The cast also left a message about their first impression of the series!
Episode 1 ‘A Journey! Jimina Village!’
Nike is a young boy who grew up in Jimina village and was forced on an adventure to become a hero, thanks to his hero-fanatic parents who heard that a hero to defeat a demon was needed. According to the rules of the village, a hero who starts his adventure has to pass the house of the witch Obaba, so when Nike goes there, he meets Kukuri who uses the a strange magic called Guru Guru. According to Obaba’s words, she is the last descendant of the Migumigu family, who is the only family left that can use Guru Guru, and that she has been waiting for the next brave hero to appear.
Shiyuka Ishigami (voice of Nike)
‘”A cute boy and girl going on a fantasy adventure!” …I would have thought, but why is the old guy Oyaji appearing so much!? A mass of gags! Ah, but I am curious about the love story! It is made up of many different ingredients, like well balanced meal.’
Konomi Kohara (voice of Kukuri)
‘For me, this is where gag manga started! When this series was published, I was a child, but I remember how much I loved reading it, since it was a story that could make both adults and children die of laughter and even has cute characters. That’s also why I am so happy to voice Kukuri.’
Katsuyuki Konishi (voice of Kitakita Oyaji)
‘It definitely was funny. I laughed so much. And it drew me in so much, I remember reading it all in one go.’
You Taichi (voice of Juju)
‘I first read Mahojin Guru Guru in elementary school, but it was so funny! And I remember I thought that the characters are so complex! When we had to clean, me and my friends would play with the bamboo brooms as if it was magic. And I always practiced how to draw Gipple during class, so I can still draw him on the spot.’
Yukiyo Fujii (voice of Toma)
‘The interaction between Nike and Kukuri is so cute…. And even the tiniest side character is so warm, the whole manga is full of loveable characters. That’s why everybody could go on recording their lines happily.’
Takahiro Sakurai (voice of Gipple)
‘I remember I wanted to read Nangoku Shonen Papuwa-kun, but Mahojin Guru Guru just started. It’s a fairytale-like story and I thought it was good.’
