An anime based on the manga of Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka will air in January 2019!
Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka is a manga series by Makoto Fukami (story) and Seigo Tokiya (art) that combines magical girls with the military. It is currently being serialized in Square Enix’ Monthly Big Gangan and has a total of eight volumes. The series started in June 2015 and is also available in English through Seven Seas Entertainment.
We get a glimpse of the animation in the very first trailer and it has been announced that the main character Asuka Otori will be voiced by Aya Suzaki. The anime will be directed by Hideyo Yamamoto and will be produced at Liden Films.
It’s the 21st century. Humanity has got in contact with another intelligent life form but the encounter wasn’t a happy one. Monsters from the Netherworld invaded Earth and destroyed their weapons. Now it seems that it is only a matter of time until the candle of mankind burns out. However, there is hope thanks to one thing that can give life back to humanity. Magical Girls.
The girls have strong magical powers and can bear not only great physical but also mental pain and were able to lead mankind to victory and end the great war. Little did they know that their first victory was only the beginning. They have to fight international crimes, indiscriminate terrorism, civil war and other conflicts… The battle is not over.
