The upcoming movie adaptation of Tokyo Ghoul has released its first teaser trailer! Tokyo Ghoul is a popular manga that has been adapted into an anime, a stage play, and now a live action movie. The movie Tokyo Ghoul will be released in Japanese cinemas on 29 July.
Although the visuals of Ken Kaneki (played by Masataka Kubota) and Touka Kirishima (played by Fumika Shimizu) have already been released, this is the first time we can see them in action.
The teaser begins with the words ‘To the world of Ghouls, of which humans don’t know’ appearing on the screen and goes on to show us Ken Kaneki, who knows both worlds, human and ghoul. We also get to see Touka Kirishima, who works at cafe Anteiku. We can also see what many other characters look like: Amon (played by Nobuyuki Suzuki), Rize (played by Yu Aoi) and Mado (played by Yo Oizumi)!
The second half of the teaser makes a big turn, and we can see intense battle scenes filled with hatred. We can see Ken and Touka training their bodies and a masked Ken engaging in battle with Amon. We also get a glimpse of Mado using an anti-ghoul weapon known as a ‘quinque’. It seems the movie will try to faithfully depict the world of the manga.
Towards the end of the teaser, we see a glimpse of Ken’s ‘kagune’, the special Ghoul organ that allows them to hunt down and consume humans. We can also hear Cafe Anteiku’s owner, Yoshimura, say the line:
You are a single being who has both the human and ghoul worlds to which you belong
The actor who is playing Yoshimura has not yet been revealed. Just whose voice is it? We look forward to the announcement!
